Thank you everyone.
After several weeks of intensive learning (on my part), Mahnarch-based therapy (on both our parts)[read: real "Country" rehab] I have an update that I wrote to Demona:
***
Well, the last few weeks have had leaps and bounds and a plateau.
When I brought Mum home she was a vegetable.
I had to spoon feed her. Change her diaper every two hours. Wash her every day.
She elevated to being able to speak - though incoherently - for a week.
I took her off of her "puree" diet a couple of weeks ago but, she was on a "no silverware" regime, cuz she couldn't find her own mouth.
(she was finger fooding it).
Two weeks ago she was still calling me Brad (her brother/my uncle), and she claimed that I had an upstairs [she could even describe it].
Bathing and bathroom routines are getting routine; and faster.
-minor "accident" with simple diaper change: 5 minutes (was 35 mins).
-wetting the bed, no poo, complete change: 13 minutes (was over an hour).
-mess everything, requiring a shower: 45 minutes (was 1h 30m).
On the uphill battle:
Ma is starting to use her walker on short ventures - 5-15ft.
She's talking normally (80%) [HA! to the doctors who said she'd be a veggie forever.]
She can use the TV remote on her own.
She still thinks I have an upstairs, once in a while.
She wants to drive tomorrow (No.).
The other day:
-I took her to the bathroom and had to keep her from playing in the toilet bowl.
-I had to force her into the living room (away from the kitchen) because she almost burned herself on the stove while trying to "help me cook".
-I had to pull her out of the hallway because she forgot where she was going (all these travels are in her new wheel chair)
-She started "making dinner" at 6AM the other day (taking food out of the fridge and putting it on the counter) because she thought it was 6PM.
She's holding good blood pressure and is, like I said, 80% normal these days.
I'm getting used to this lifestyle and I have support from my neighbors and friends.
I'm back to work full time, since Wednesday, with this support ladder and none of this counts against my vacation time (my Employer is awesome! He said, "Take all the time you need." and he meant it.) [He even sent a "Get Well" card to my house for her along with some Azalias (which are now dying/dead) ((I tried to keep them, sorry, but, what with all the Global Warming.....we haven't seen the sun in 24 days...and gained 18 inches of snow...)).]
Today, basically, I'm caring for Frankenstein's Monster.
She can say/ask/tell some stuff but, most times she sits in her chair and....sits.... and mumbles.
I ask, "Did you wet yourself?" (when I smell it or look at the clock).
"Nah."
*I feel her*
"Are you sure?"
"Ja."
(she's soaked).
But, later, I can ask her to change the channel to 13.1 and she does it right away.
It's like she's a multi-personality but, one of her "personalities" is an invalid.
I have to go to Probate Court on Monday (March 1) for a hearing about my taking Guardianship over her.
On Monday, I will, essentially, become my mothers' (adoptive) parent.
......she'll be taking my last name.....
