And here I thought it was sex. Kevin, that's how you plant your family tree but not how to water it. ;D ;D Wow, Blastgirl: That's the best example of Confusion-esque insight I have ever been witness to. ....So simple, yet, so true. I give you 10 gold stars.... ....and I promise not to over run your ship on the open seas. I give no promises from Thunder Beard, however...

I'm not so sure about Thunder Beard either. But maybe he can be talked into not running me over. ;D

Yes. I'm full-throttle 'beans and rice'. In fact, since Jan. 1 I've spent less than $100 on everything (including my second mortgage). Would you like some fiscal assistance? I've become quite the guru on matters of the coin! (You can always say "No." here, and PM me a "Yes"....) I can help a brotha out! I haven't checked on this thread since making it. Oops! Anyway, I'm happy to hear you can live cheap, but I love to shop! I know I should cut down on that too eventually. I don't have credit cards though, and don't trust them. I don't want to get in trouble with one, and I'm afraid of that. My dad keeps saying you need one to pay for things like a car, or if you stay in a hotel. I hope that's not true. I'd rather use money I really have. I'm not sure how Pay Pal works, I had one years ago to recieve money from a person, but never to buy with it, which would come in handy to find certain things cheaper online. I just don't know how you keep track of it.

My PayPal account is linked directly to my checking account. It's the same principle as writing a check or using a debit card; just quicker to use (one-click transactions versus entering in the same information every time).

Paypal works pretty well it can link directly to a checking account or a credit card. Demona I mostly agree with your father a credit card allows you to establish credit. I know that sounds like talking in circles that's not the point of this. But you get a reputation of using the money on the card and paying it back. That makes banks feel you are a good risk and therefore they will finance you for a long term purchase like a new car, even a house.
Its not impossible to arrange these things without a card but it is much tougher if you don't have some credit established.
I started with my company as a temp at age 18 and formally got full time status at 19 years old. At that time I was single and often worked on travel crews. I spent time in California, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Maryland. Sometimes as long as 3 or 4 weeks.
I had to get credit cards to determine what can or can't be repaid. If I stayed at a hotel booked by the company I was already set but The arrangement is they pay for your boarding, and 1/2 of your meals, they will also pay for 80% of your fuel if you use your own vehicle.
The statements made it easy to sort out and get reimbursed without having to save a ton of receipts and determine who owes who what.
If I went to McDonalds or something I did not use a card or ask for supplement.
However that did have some benefit. I currently have *ready to cringe Mahnarch* 8 different credit cards.
Hear me out. 1 is strictly for gasoline, 1 is strictly for non-gasoline refundable items that are job related, 1 is strictly for the kids activities, 1 is for household, and from there.
A 10 thousand dollar limit is not a free source of money though that's what people all need to be aware of.
Having a few different cards made it easy to get more credit though. And I was able to buy my house at a fairly young age because my credit was better than it usually is for that age group.
I was 25 when I got married. We lived in a trailer for just under 2 years but at age 27 I was able to buy this house. We looked around for a long time before we bought. We might have done it sooner but there was a chance of me being based out of Fredricksburg, Virginia and we didn't want to buy a house here if that happened. Once it was established that the Penn York would be my division we settled.

I......I just died a little - inside...
In fact; I may need a ride to the hospital (but, not in a vehicle fueled by Credit Card purchased gasoline).
....Oh, whet my harrowed brow, phantoms of Christmas Past! (and the interest they accrue).
I need a moist towelette - and an ice pack.
***
Classic: You could actually do that, me thinks (based on movies based on your history based on what I've read....)
You could be the next Billy Bob Thorton of the 'Bad News Bears'. Or, Rodney Dangerfield of 'The LadyBugs'..... ;d

Don't die inside. We're just going to disagree on this. I think that credit cards have their place. I don't use them as a free source of money though.

Sign me up for that, too. Hubba! ;D *** Yeah (no). But, 8? How about you cut that down to 3 by April? (I was going to say "half" [4] but, I noticed that an '8' cut, literally, in half is '3' - which is better). If you can do that; I will send you a $5 bill and a signed picture of myself (holding said $5 bill). ....and then we'll get you down to zero.

I heard that there were *gasp* STEROIDS, also!!
How am I not surprised to learn about Mark McGuire?
I wonder how many credit cards he maxed to pay for that.........
Did they ever test/verify Sammy Sosa?

Not enough obviously they didn't keep it quiet. No good comes from steroids. I don't' think anybody gets that jacked without them though. Its not as if the body will naturally get that large especially that fast. Look at some old pictures This is Mark circa 1988 He has pretty good size and he did hit nearly 50 home runs in his early years winning a world series in 1989. And then is now.
