Yes. I'm full-throttle 'beans and rice'. In fact, since Jan. 1 I've spent less than $100 on everything (including my second mortgage). Would you like some fiscal assistance? I've become quite the guru on matters of the coin! (You can always say "No." here, and PM me a "Yes"....) I can help a brotha out! Someone reads/listens to Dave Ramsey.

I like Mahnarch's money saving qualities. *my wife could use a lesson in that*
I could too I guess I know I spend more than I need to. I happen to like steak though. I guess it's a balancing act.

If I wasn't thirty-some-odd years old, people would swear I was born during the 1930's.
I straighten bent nails. I re-use water bottles from tap water. I re-use toilet paper squares.
......fold once and pick up that spider. ......fold twice and rub down his stain!
I don't waste money on "African Child Needs" charities.
96% of all donations to Sally Struthers goes to New York. 2.65% goes into someone's pocket (in New York).
....They say that "Just $0.35 can feed a child for a month".....
That's all they get! $0.35!!
You send in $20! They get $0.35!!
The rest goes to New York!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stop sending/wasting your money to this liberal black hole!
You want to help? Buy an airline ticket and bring some cash.

Jesus Christ. I recognize who you were talking about and you go on a tirade. I have nothing to prove. I used to listen to him on the radio occasionally until the station format changed. There you go.

I wish not to have there be an argument like this here. But I do think people could use to count their funds a lot better than they do most of the time.
I'm not as frugal as Mahnarch's plan suggests, I do use credit cards, and I have a truck that is under the payment system. Buy though never lease I do not ever lease. When its paid fully I'm sure it will be time to get something new for my wife.
However I do get disgusted with people I work with. Friday is payday. I am never broke on Thursday. I work with at least 10 or 20 guys who are broke by Monday or Tuesday. Some of them have families some dont.
I can never imagine running out of money before payday that's just wrong. You know how much you have and how long it has to last. Not being able to make that happen makes no sense to me.
At 38 years old I can honestly say I have never since about the 10th grade ever left my house without at least enough for a meal, an emergency expense or the ability to put a few gallons of gas in the tank.
The amount of people who spend all their money as standard procedure is appalling.
The same people need to learn that a credit card is not a free source of money. Its something to use to bridge yourself through unforeseen expenses.
Suppose you have a credit card with a limit of 20k. That does not mean you have $20,000 to spend as you wish. However if there's a tornado or something and a wall of your house is knocked off, and you have to debate with the insurance company if they're going to pay for it all of it, some of it or what, meanwhile you need a wall put back up. Something you did not expect so you didn't budget for that.
The credit card will pay for that repair until it can be resolved. Either way it has to be paid back even if you pay it in installments. That means if you're going to pay that off in increments of $400 a month you have to set aside $100 each week for that purpose. That would be the case for about 4 years.
Not get a bill on the 15th of the month and payment is due on the 23rd and you don't have it.

Kevin; I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking you. I wasn't sure if you were for or against living debt free and I was trying to send you on a journey of self discovery.
So, if you've listened to him, then you understand what he (and I) stand for. This is good!

Phil.... you must cut up your credit cards today!
Do a 'Plasectomy' on video - in the most creative way you can. Only then will you be free from the thumb of Visa, Mastercard, Bank of America, etc.
Without debts you can build an earmarked account(s) for various unexpected disasters - AND, you won't be paying 23% on it every month.
A $10,000 wall repair won't turn into a $43,000 wall repair over 60 monthly payments.
--And, never co-sign for anyone's loans!

"She turned me into a newt!" "......I got better..."
"BURN HER..........credit card!!!"
Burn her credit card real good! ;D
A credit card, a funnel, 2 grams of potassium nitrate, some hydrogen oxide, some peanut butter and some dynamite will make an awesome display!

[In truth, you can change your family tree using one simple plan: Cash and investments.] And here I thought it was sex.

It's almost time to take down Christmas lights and trees. I hate to take it down and end the season. That also means you have to find a place to keep the new stuff. I like the tree so much because that's good storage for things.

That's a typical Guy thing. Toss it under the tree and leave it there until you need it.
Do you leave the Tree up til March? I knew people who have done that.

I like having the lights up but I've begun taking things down. It's just part of the drill by now.
The 12th is always been the cut off point for me.
