Yogi Berra I remember him as a manager of the Yankees in the 80s and a base coach too. My father remembers him as a player. Obviously he is most famous for his quotes to which he says "I never said half of the things I said." He also obviously made a lot of them on purpose to entertain others. I enjoyed reading this list though. www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/y/yogi_berra.html

I read your list. I think that's great. I also heard that he was really very smart inspite of his dumb reputation.
I'm sure he was because I don't know baseball like you do but I always understood the catcher was mainly the guy who runs the game. I believe that he managed also and that takes a lot of smarts to organize and run a team of 25 guys.
Maybe he spoke a little off kilter like 'to win we must score more runs than the opponent.' That might be considered dumb for stating the obvious, but he could be quoted out of context too. He might have been saying that no matter how the game had gone that far, we can still win.
That's the real point but it's picked up on that he said to win you have to score more often than the other team and everybody laughs.
