I fight this battle in my mind everyday. Not about tattoos but about what stupid things parents do with their kids.
Tattooing a 7 year old and thinking it's ok!
I remember when my friends and I were 17 a kid in our circle got a tattoo. We were all pretty drunk that night. I'm not bragging or anything it's just what happened. Anyway this kid got a tattoo and his mother tried to wash it off with a Brillo pad.
My mother heard about that saying to me 'at least my son had good judgment' I wish I could smile and take a bow but the truth is I wasn't quite as drunk as Mark.
I don't really oppose tattoos of themselves, I do not have any nor did I ever really want them but I dont' mind them. I don't want to see any on my kids before they reach at least an adult age. A neighbor family took their son to get a tattoo at age 16 for his birthday and I thought that was ridiculous, but at least that's not age 7.

I don't know if things were different back then, but tattoo businesses won't work on you if you're drunk, and you need to prove your age. Here it's 18 and you fill out paperwork. Nothing is wrong with them as long as it's done in a clean place by a good artist, and you're of age according to your state. What's disturbing is that it was a gang symbol, and the kid wanted one just like his dad. Still, wanting a life sentence for the idiot is going too far, it definately doesn't fit with what happened.

I dont' think it was 'legal' then either but there's not that much recourse once its done. I think it depends who you get for how scrupulous they are.

I think it's become terrible how some people raise their Kids and think that's a form of bonding. It's anything but that.

It's not bonding like this father thinks it is. It shows us sometimes how unfit some parents are.

I teach high school and Im surprised but quite a few of the kids are tattooed. I only remember a couple that had tattoos when I was a high school student. One of the football players had his number tattooed on his bicep. He was 17 years old but he was such a big kid he might not have been given a hard time by the tattooers.
This other guy was 20 he had dropped out of school but come back. He had a number of tattoos but I don't remember anybody else if there were any.
There are at least 20 students that have tattoos where I teach and they are not over aged.
Theres probably more I know of those particular kids. I realize it is not the same as a 7 year old being tattooed but I still think its too young.
