A forum game made me think about something rather funny.
Things that parents or adults say to kids that sometimes makes sense but is just a way of persuasion.
1) 'because I said so.'
Well, I really try not to use that. I can't say I never do, but I would prefer to give a real answer to the question why because I think it's important to learn the reasons for things in life. Not all things have large consequence and not always is there only 1 solution. But there always is an answer and it can be as simple as you just want to do it that way. But 'because I said so' doesn't really teach that reason. So unless I'm out of patience I try not to use it.
2) 'You could stay like that'
And they all knew somone who did. That's just a way to tell the kids you're not in the mood for sillyness stop making faces. So you should scare them into believing they can stay that way.
3) 'If you touch a toad you can get warts.'
Mom doesn't want you touching toads. That's all.
4)'You guys were making all that noise I thought somebody was hurt.'
NO you didn't!!!!!!! They were annoying you by shouting and you want them to feel bad about it.
5) I have no idea abut the step on a crack thing.
6) 'Uphill both ways.' That's a way to toughen kids up. I don't think that's such a bad idea. If your kids don't learn to put both oars in the water at an early age they may not be able to learn that later after the formative ages are past.
I'll think of more later and I invite all forum members to do the same.
The theme being things adults tell kids to persuade them.
