That's Catholic schools for ya. My mother went to one, where the nuns actually slapped the hell out of the students with rulers. Yeah. If they think rock music is so evil, they ought to try listening to rap music. I'd be willing to bet they'd have heart attacks and keel over while screaming in pain. I believe if you live a good life and help other people, God will love you and you'll go to heaven. That's it. LOL I'm not someone who is devoutly religious, mostly because people who are strictly devout Catholics or any other religion are very annoying at best, and downright frightening at worst when they force it on others. I'm Catholic, but I'll stick to my beer and rock n roll.

I doubt the legality of this. I don't think they can do that. If he meets the graduation criteria they can't forbid it. He has not broken the law. Jersey please note that's a Baptist school not a Catholic school. Catholic schools have some restrictions but less than many of the fundimentalist faiths have.
But that's the same as a public school saying that if you attend religious services you can be held from graduation because we are a non religious public school.
What religious practices you hold outside school is not up to them.
Does that mean that a 17 year old kid isn't allowed to date as long as he is a student of their school? I wish I knew more about that because it's very interesting where the reasoning comes in.

If they're on the fundamentalist side, any little thing the students do to violate their rules probably results in punishments like this.

I doubt the legality of this. I don't think they can do that. It's a private school. As far as I know they can impose whatever kind of rules they want on their students because their students, or more accurately their students' parents, willingly signed them up to go to the school.

I was irate at first but, Peon does have a point.
Let's say that the drinking age was lowered to 18, again, but, I didn't want anyone younger than 21 to drink on my property; I have a right to forbid it if they want to be on my land.
I already forbid welfare on my land. ...and drug users.

You're exactly right about this. It's more than likely the student didn't even read the papers he was signing, thus giving the school all kinds of powers over him. A lot of institutions do this kind of thing, with paperwork full of clauses that can really take advantage of someone.

This is a good debate. Tying Mahnarch's example to Peon's point it's almost like once you take a job and you agree not to consume alcohol at all on the job or not while you're with the company they can let you go if you fail to comply.

It wasn't run like a nazi camp or that bad, but if the brats were really out of line I think. The school in the story gives Baptist a bad name because I work with someone who went to a Baptist high school around here and it wasn't bad. If people want to pee their pants over little things, fine. If the parents read the handbook, they might pull students out of the damn school. It would be nice to see it shut down from lack of attendance. Your teenage years and before that should be about having fun.

The thing is it's a Baptist school therefore a private school. Most private schools are independent as long as they teach their states mandated criteria. The school itself has Baptist roots it is still an independent school. Not all Baptist schools would necessarily feel the same way that particular school does about the situation.

I don't know why there would be a dating restriction from the School. I am not familiar with the School or its policies but that seems unusually strict for any School Religious or otherwise.

I question the legality of this because that is an outside activity and not an illegal 1. Like Peon said though they are a private school and have some rights to have their own set of standards. So I dont' know what happens from there.
We don't have any lawyers that are forum members do we? I'm kidding I know we don't. But that's a question for a lawyer.
