Residents' group gets vocal about noise at Florida

Residents near Florida's New Smyrna Beach Municipal Airport recently erected a billboard showing a boy covering his ears, accompanied by the caption "Noise Smyrna Beach." Activists are pushing for landing fees at the airport to help gain more control of flight operations there, while airport supporters point out that the facility provides 129 jobs and $3.5 million in salaries. Supporters also say that nearly 80% of complaints last year were logged by just 23 residents -- this in a town with a population of 23,000. The News-Journal (Daytona, Fla.) (4/19)

23 people. Rather, 23 liberals want to take away 129 people's jobs because of a noise complaint?!

Has anyone heard a Cessna 172, Piper Warrior, Cherokee, or Cub take off?

They call railroad headquarters, probaby airports too and say that the train, or probably town snowplows too about making noise and bright lights.

So what do they do then, not pick up trash because the garbage truck makes too much noise?

Obviously they're up to no good if they're in a park that is designed for recreation. Only bad people hang out in recreational places in the middle of the afternoon.

But if they happen to find a ball player's crackpipe during transit they had no right to check his luggage so it was obtained illegally therefore they can't bring violation charges on him. That makes a lot of sense.

All I know is the neighborhoods off Cottonwood are snobville. I had a friend who lived in that area. I don't know if they really talked to the neighbors or not.

Calling to complain about kids playing during the day in a park is dumb, unless you know something is wrong. However, there is a park with nature trails near where I went to high school, and kids will go in the woods at night. You know, the troublemaker kind of teenagers who could be up to no good. I haven't heard of anything really happening though.
