I was going to post this in "Entertainment" or the YouTube thread, or General Chat but, it deserves it's own entity. Get a free carIt doesn't just apply to cars. It's also in my signature and will probably live there for a long time, if you need to remember. This one decision can cost you $5.5mil.

You've gotta be kidding me! The whole thing makes sense. I always had the notion that I will never buy a brand new car or truck off the lot with a loan. They do nothing but screw you.
My truck cost me and my dad $4000 in cash. All its needed since is some repairs, the upgrades I've added, along with insurance payments. Used cars is just so much better.
But the idea of retiring a millionaire interests me...a lot. This is about the age I would start doing something like that.

That's a good video because it really shows us the whole picture. I don't know if most people have the will power to just put the money away though. For those that do it's a great system.

If I had a vision in December of 2002 when I got my 2003 Chevy I would have put $580 a month away and by the time the truck got hit by a motorhome in October of 2008 I could have paid cash for my 2009 truck without any interest or financial charges at all.
Or I could have kept it about 4 more years and sold it and still done the same thing.

Great to hear that this info is helping! I feel like I've accomplished something today!
Also, I didn't realize Pennsylvania had a bottle deposit system in place.
Michigan is 10 cents a can/bottle. What's PA?

You're right Mahnarch it doesn't. But we live only about 10 miles from the NY border and we try to encourage recycling. My wife does, I'm not that orgainzed, but my wife has trained both our sons about the refund system and every so often when bottles are stacked up we bring them to a near by store inside the NY border and shop at that store as well.

A blog about how to save money. I need that because Im naturally wasteful when money comes my way I spend it real fast. ;D
I just got my 1st new car. I had a Plymouth Acclaim forever. Now I have a new Taurus but I didnt do it right. I got 500 from my cousin for the Acclaim and make monthly payments for the new car. If I keep it a long time and follow his advice from now on I might be able to do better on my future cars.

Phil: You can return 'out of state' cans in a returnable state?
In Michigan we go to jail for that (say - I drive to Indiana on my job and buy a soda there, and try to return it in Michigan....If caught, I get a heavy fine and/or jail.)
Also, the "20 minutes from New York" reassures my speculation about your whereabouts. I was supposed to go to PA a few days ago (the run got cancelled). It was an overnighter to Hillsdale, Pa. Still quite a hike from you but, at least I could say I was in PA!
Kimmie!!! I should have gotten to you sooner! Of course, the $475 is just an example. $400/month would work just as well - though not as profitable.
Slayer:
Good thing I got to you in time. Totally do this.
If I knew at your age what I know now.....
I've wasted my life.

I suppose you're not supposed to but I'm not in the practice of telling people where I do my shopping and where I live. It's about a once a month large grocery deal to do this it's not like I drive into NY whenever I have an empty 6 pack of coke bottles to return.
Unless someone destroys this truck of mine I would plan on having it until its a rusty old 200k + mile old beast. That's usually my plan so far I'm 2 for 2 in having trucks destroyed unexpectedly.
The original was almost 16 years old and it was almost time to get rid of it anyway and I was beginning to be ready to admit that before the tragic happening. The 2003 was just broken in. It had at least 5 years left and then I would have given it to Jason.

....you mean sold it to Jason..?
Kids need to learn that the things they own have a certain value. Throwing the keys across the room voids that - even with curfews attached (mailboxes still get run down at 2PM).

....you mean sold it to Jason..? Yes of course. And I agree about learning the value of things.

Yeah just a misspeaking actually.
My 87 truck was my dad's originally but he let me make payments until it was paid for.

My Mom gave me a Dodge Shadow when I was younger. I'm glad she didn't ask Phil and Mahnarch how to do that I would have had to pay for the car. ;D

Good. I was hoping that your post was just a typo. If he wanted the Western snow plow there's be even a greater change. And we would have a new plow man.

True, that. And, he'd have to mount it, himself. None of that, "Daaaad, can you put it on for me?....and plow the driveway, too?" Blaaassstgiiiirrrllll!!!! You should give your parents $600 for that car. That'll make me feel better.

I think he knows better about putting the plow on. He knows how to do that now. I think he also knows he would be shown about 2 maybe 3 times and that's about it.
I'm sure Blastgirl thanked her mother everyday for that car.
