The chat board has failed, miserably. I suggest getting a Cool Web Chat box, that sits neatly at the bottom of the homepage and is really simple to use. It would be more noticable, simple and it would get used a whole lot more. It would add a new dimention allowing the discussion of topics too small to be notable enough for a post, and it would allow greater understanding of personality. It works well on another forum I am a member of, and I am sure it would work well here too. www.coolwebchat.com

The idea of a chat box is ok but that's kind of more for when you have five or six online at once. That rarely happens because everybody has different timezones and different times when they can be online and logged in.
The chatroom is a fine idea but I don't think our membership base would make the best of it often because you are either on alone when logged in or perhaps theres 2 or 3 total online. That's where the message comes in that you can get a reply within a day or two whenever the person does log in.

2 or 3 people at a time is absolutely fine! If it is many more than that then it tends to be flooded with messages. The great thing about this is that you know that someone is online as it wil keep you logged in unless you intentionally log out. If you see that someone else is online, you can start a conversation. At the other place, and no-one is online I will keep the page open, with the 'sound updates' turned on, which will 'plop' when a message is posted.
As it is completely free it would cause no harm to give it a go.

This should definately go on the homepage, or if possible, on all pages. This would highly increase usage.

Are you sure? You don't think that the chatroom is best for chatting?
It could go where ever but I would have put it the same way Classic did. IT's up to Classic and you though.

I think one of the reasons it failed is because it was hidden away. If it was on the homepage, it would be noticed and used.

Just a friendly reminder the chat section is up and running and it has worked very well thus far. When you see another member is online why not give it a try
