There you go let the debating debacle begin.
I personally would vote for Bob Barr as I agree with him on pretty much everything.

Ill go McCain. With our troops at war I would prefer a President with military experience. McCain has commanded naval fleets and served in Vietnam.
I think he would be a strong President.
Sometimes I feel a third or fourth party offers more but its always going to be 1 of the big 2 that gets the job.

I picked McCain but when everybody was still in the mix Fred Thompson would have been my preferred candidate.

Someone I would think would be good and I would vote for is Alan Keys but he doesn't seem to have enough appeal to get elected. He has run for a few different offices and never has been able to win the election.

Phil:
I would be offended by your flip flop loyalty but, I'm not running this year.
But, then again, I question edlinfan's age requirement. Has anyone checked this out, yet?....in say, an 'Exclusive'?

I'd go McCain only because I'm a small business owner and it's a little easier to operate with Republican policy and I was in the original war in Iraq in 1991 I was in the army. And I support the war. Not so much going to war but since we did go to war it's important to finish what we started and pulling out just to get it over with as Obama and so many others have said is not a good idea.
I also think the know that and if say Obama or any of the others who say how we have to get out of there and we would be out in 6 months if I'm elected are saying that because they feel the majority of Americans want to hear that.
Once in office and more informed of the situation it would be easy to say, "The job is nearly done and we have to finish it." Or else they can say "I didn't realize it was this bad but we can't leave Iraq in the state it woudl be in without our troops to support the area until whatever time"
When I was in the army it was a different kind of war though. Our job was move Iraq forces out of Kuwait, and get an unconditional surrender from Saddam Hussein.
That was a much easier campaign than this war. This war was to remove Saddam, which they have, and then put a whole new government in place and then replace the former military with a more western attitude.
I'm not sure if that's even a possible task but I think what will happen is what is happening is it will be done close enough to put it together with reluctant trust and the bulk of American troops would be out within about 3 years or less.
I would love a president that is not a republican and not a democrat but basically a guy like us.
Mahnarch perhaps.
With the college it's probably impossible. Ross Perot ran in 1992 I was just getting out of the army when Perot ran against George Bush Sr and Bill Clinton.
I voted for Ross Perot and so did my parents. Classic was not old enough to vote at that time his birthday is in December and he missed out on voting that year just by a month. Our other brother was old enough but not a registered voter at that time.
I'm registered as a Republican but I will vote for whoever I think is most prepared for the job. And this year it is John McCain in my estimation.
He is a little old then again so was Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower there's been other older presidents.
I dont think it's possible to elect anybody else other a D or R unless the electoral colelge was abolished.
For Jason, Yes electoral voters can go against their prescient and vote on their own. It's not correct procedure but it is legal. It happens once about every 5th election on average. A few electors voted for McGovern instead of Nixon that places a state in split vote.
For Jason, Since you're from Pennsylvania, and that state has 21 electoral votes. I looked it up I had no idea.
Lets say that Obama got 48 percent to McCain's 45 percent and the others totaled at 7 percent.
Neither got a majority because you need at least 51 percent for a majority. But Obama woudl have had the most so he would get all 21 electoral votes.
Now what if 3 rebeled?
Lets say that 3 electors forced a split then Obama would get 18 votes but McCain would have lets say 2 added to his national total and 1 for someone else that elector supported.
None of the delegates in 1992 did that. Ross Perot had over 20 percent of the popular vote but not a single electoral vote. And that's because he didn't pull a majority in any of the states.

Not being an American but being influenced largely by America I think it's a good race because I think either McCain or Obama is a good pick. I think McCain on the national security thing that everybody is saying about, I think he said good things about the econemy but Obama I like about him is he isn't a long term politician. I think because of that he isn't as entrenched in politics like just about any other politician who has run for president.
Its a little different in Canada its just about impossible to be prime minister unless your party holds the most seats in the house of commons but any Canadian citizen 18 years old or older can be Prime minister.
