Oh, man, what a great weekend.
Me and ma went up to Branch to attend a get together with the family. My uncle spent last Friday and Saturday morning cooking BBQ ribs while everyone else brought whatever they could pass - Mum made homemade Potato Salad.
Things went great. Folks were laughing and having a good time. Things turned to about how we've seen more exotic wildlife around the area in the last few years when, suddenly, my Uncle says:
Bear!
My Aunt says, 'Alright, everyone in the house! and everyone scooted indoors.
Everyone was calm, cool and collected - showing the outdoorsyness of my family but, this was the first time I'd ever been kicked out of my own (my Uncle's own) yard because of a bear.
Usually we go to them! You know?
But, we all just hung out, watching the small black bear wander out of the woods that lines my Uncles house as he sniffed around our stuff for a little bit and ended up wandering to the neighbor's house before he disappeared.
After half an hour it was time for Grandma and Grandpa to leave but, my Uncle took forward measures and ran out to the driveway to pull their van into the garage and close it up before letting them get in.
Overall it wasn't that big of an event but, it also goes to show that not all home invaders are crack addicts or illegal aliens (although, it could've been a Canadian bear without papers).
Had the bear snuck up on us without anyone noticing and/or had been violent I don't think anyone would've gone out there to 'talk to the bear and hope he'll leave'.
Yes, Uncle has an entire cabinet full of firearms - including a ball and powder Musket.

Awww, he was just a tiny one - maybe 200-300 pounds.......
He wasn't exactly quiet about coming up, either, which is how my uncle spotted him.
He was just curious-slash-hungry.
It's funny how a thin pane of sliding door glass can make you feel right at home, away from the wild.
Which also reminds me of the funny scene in that one John Candy movie where he's chased down by that grizzly and the bear slams the door down on him and starts jumping up and down on top of him.
Not 'Planes, Trains...' Not 'Uncle Buck'
Crap, what was it? One of the Lampoons?
