My mum has expressed a concern for her protection since moving into the middle of no-where with me. Even though we live in BFE there's still the chance that a 'Holland Hooligan' could try to B&E into a farm house (and it's NOT unheard of - especially since they put in that new trailer park a few miles away [they even moved the cop shop next door, since they pretty much live there, anyway]) Ma's a 'camo-phile', too. So, I was looking around the S&W site and found a nice little plinker - the 22A Camo. They want $340 for it but, I'm thinking that if I can find a local dealer I might be able to find a better deal (plus, the whole 'licensing' thing would be easier). Anyone know a chain that doesn't include the word 'Cabela' in it that I can find one? Cabela's doesn't seem to list one - which sucks cuz they're only a few miles away. Here's the pic of the one she wants. It's a .22cal semi-auto rim-fire. I like the detail in the camo. It's pretty intricate.

How about a gun shop there should be one of those in the area. Those guys are usually good at locating whatever they don't have on hand too.

Yeaahhh....but, I hate waiting.
That's what I hate about internet ordering - the wait.
If it's shiny I wanna touch it now!!

I recognise that pistol, it's a .22 Beretta "Neos" target pistol. Fired a couple, and highly recommend against them if you plan on a home defense gun. Get a .22 ruger revolver, 9 shots (same cap) higher refire rate, accuracy, and you won't have to worry about a jam, which the Neos series seems to do almost 1 every other clip.
The revolver's cheaper, lasts longer, easier to maintain and use, and like I said NEVER jams (unless a working part were to break in which case cheap replacement fee, and with a .22 I highly doubt it would ever jar the frame enough to break any parts.)
Not a bad pistol but you really have to be picky with the ammo. Go for the revolver trust me.

I'm glad Britain is generally without guns... :S I just don't think they are acceptable in most circumstances.

You are right about guns being unacceptable in most circumstances, which is exactly why I sleep with knives in the bed LOL. nobody gonna sneak up on me while i'm asleep xD

Even the UK needs it's guns. Where would 007 have been without his firearms?
I'm kidding though I realize a gun in the wrong hands is trouble. But your right to bear arems should not be at risk.

Thank you, sir. That's exactly what I wanted to hear.
I was worried about the action of such a small caliber and since the only small caliber experience I have is with a rifle (which jambs up a lot) I didn't want to walk in to something blindly.
I also didn't realize that the smaller cals came in such a high round count but, how's the reload difficulty?
Pop and push? Double action?
I can't have my 50ish year old mother fumbling around and trying to reload a cylinder when someone is still crawling after her with 9 rounds in his face.
Maybe I should move her up to a .38 rev?
[she really likes the 'camo' appeal but, I still have to push the 'safety' aspects of Chrome. Plus, she's more on the 'frail' side when it comes to the wrists/arms/body. (5ft 3in - 90lbs...and 50 years old)]

I'm glad Britain is generally without guns... :S I just don't think they are acceptable in most circumstances. This is the U.S. and it's quite a deadly place to live. The city Mahnarch talks about, Holland, has a big gang problem and it's spreading. They've firebombed several houses in the ghetto. The trailer parks I hear are also not good. People have a right to defend themselves, you can't just lay down and die...unless you want to. We need the choice to own guns or not. Personally, I have never used one. The owners are either hunters, or have it just incase, hoping never to use it.

Your right to bear arms is among the earliest rights of American society. I do realize that sometimes theres problems when a gun gets into the wrong hands. But then again if a gun is in the wrong hands thats likely to happen anyway because enough robberies and other crimes are committed by illegal, unregistered or modified firearms anyway.
That makes me think that would still happen if arms were not available to everybody, and if nobody had firearms it would be impossible to defuse a bad situation.

Get a Smith and Wesson .38 Special revolver. I used to have one, but my mother found out that it was a stolen firearm (!), so we don't have it anymore. I freaking miss that gun, though.
Yeah. A .38 will likely take care of whatever baddies come your / your mum's way. And has it really gotten that bad downstate? I used to live down there ("used to" being from birth until the summer of 1999, and "down there" being Taylor), and I mean yeah it was a little rough, but there weren't any... firebombings...

I like the .38, myself....
...and, restating what I always say:
If you disarm the public than you are essentially de-clawing a cat and throwing it into a dog pen.
Columbian drug smugglers don't care if some piece of paper says he can't have a gun. He's going to protect his 'stash' any way he can.
Gangsters who deal out their crack and "need" YOUR TV to finance their next batch don't care if he's not allowed to carry.
Psycho brats who walk into a 'Gun Free School Zone' knows he's going to be shooting fish in a barrel.
Anyone could be a wolf in sheep's clothing - and the 'sheeple*' need to have claws.
*"Sheeple" are people who who wander around like sheep. Doing whatever they're told and believing whatever anyone tells them.
