They say sometimes things happen in threes. Bernie Mac, Isaac Hayes and now Gene Upshaw?
Perhaps they're not really three similar people. But it's a sad thing that Gene Upshaw was diagnosed with pancreatic Cancer just a few days ago and died Yesterday.
He was a guy who conducted himself with class and kind of didn't live up to the reputation of being one of the Dirty Raiders of the period even though he was among that team.
I guess he is the only NFL player to play in three SuperBowls for the same team but in three different decades. (sixties, seventies, and eighties.)

I think Upshaw played for the Raiders during the John Madden years.
This is a shame that he died. Kind of suddenly too.

With the Raiders of the 70's, you'd hear "Shell and Upshaw" (Art Shell) mentioned so much that they sounded like a law firm or something. They were so good as offensive linemen that they got a lot of press, something that's not easy to do, I loved the Raiders of that era and their bad boy ways. ;D Even when they beat the hell out of my team, the Vikings, in Super Bowl eleven, I still liked the Raider mystique. And the rivalry the Raiders had with the great Steeler teams of that era were truly entertaining. ;D

Thats true offensive linemen are kind of just there. Infact when they're not being recognized thats a sign that they're doing their job well. When QBs are being sacked and a running game cant get established thats when the line gets noticed.
Yes I like all sports and Im a girl.
