I guess these kinds of problems come with the territory of owning a 14 year old truck with 185,000 + miles on it. Today was the day that I was to take my truck in to SBR Tire Exchange to have my custom rims and tires put on. I dropped the truck off at 2:45. At 5:30 I got the call. The guy told me that he had my rims and tires on the truck. However, when he went to adjust the torsion (?) bars and align the front end to accommodate the bigger tires, he found numerous problems. 1.On both sides, the lower ball joints are loose. They’re rolling around in the sockets. The upper ball joints are fine. It’s the lowers that are crap. 2.The steering tie rod has gone bad. 3.To top it all off, the passenger side anti roll bar is completely missing. The total cost to repair all these problems is “estimated” to be around $795 including the six hours of labor required for such a big job. The rims and tires are already costing me $1,250 which is a price I was prepared to shoulder. But this extra $795 will completely take me off my feet money-wise. I had to ask my dad for help. I know he will definitely help me out with these unexpected charges, but I still feel pretty crappy about it since money has been darn tight lately. I don’t really know what else to say. I guess what I can say is I would advise anyone who has a Blazer that’s a similar age or mileage to mine to get the front end parts checked for wear as soon as you can, if you haven’t already. Wish me luck with this. I know I’ll be needing it.

Good Luck. I'm sorry this happened all at once like that.
I am glad your Dad was able to help out a little bit. My Dad and my Brother both do that kind of work and I can say that at least the shop you took it to was through and made sure that it will be done right. This way your new wheels and tires will not end up getting damaged because of loose frontend parts or a faulty alignment. I don't think you can accurately align a vehicle if it has loose ball joints or looseness in the steering.

Any 4x4 is going to be constant front end work. I have had 2 and both of them were excellent trucks but the front end and brake maintenance is nearly non-stop.

Gaahhh! I absolutely HATED replacing lower ball joints on the K-series trucks.
You know, if your equipment fails/slips you could lose a finger (or worse).
But, the 'Right side anti-roll bar is missing' is actually your 'Stabilizer link' - which hooks your two independent suspension sides together to keep your truck from turning like a boat around corners. It keeps you from over/under steering when cornering at higher speeds (in excess of 20mph or so) and keeps your inner steer wheel on the ground in an emergency swerve.
Steering is kinda important.
Tie rods and ball joints keep your wheels from acting like a bad wheel on a shopping cart. You know, the one wheel the wags back and forth and vibrates the whole cart.

They fixed all the problems. Cost me and arm and a leg though. Don't even have much money left to put gas in this thing.

Sucks. I could'a done it for.......how much you got? *** I get paid by: - You buy the parts. - You pay me with "time spent" (mowing my yard/doing my taxes/guarding my house against vandals on 'Devil's Night'/etc) - or Beers. Probably could've saved you about $400 - cuz ........beers are cheaper out here.

I bet you get a little bit better Gas Mileage than Classic's F350

Heh....."tail"....
Anyway, you probably get better mileage with a straight alignment, too.
