If elected President in 2012 I would like to faze out the 'Social Security' program enacted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of his 'New Deal' in 1935.
For those who aren't in the know: The Federal government takes a percentage of your weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly income. Puts it into a 'Jackpot' of all citizens and it's distributed out, based on your "contribution", as soon as you turn 65 to help those who are retired and no longer have an income.
Basically: You are paying for the elderly today - and when you retire, the younger classes will be paying for you.
The problem with this is, there is more money coming out of the jackpot than coming in so the divided payments are far lower than what you could ever put in.
Let me roll the numbers for you.
I've been working since I was 12 years old (for 19 years, so far). You have to put in at least 40 "units" - or 40 fiscal quarters (or, 10 years) to be eligible for SS benefits.
I received my predictions about my payouts when I turn 65 and, assuming I never get a raise, I will be receiving approximately $1175 a month.
...that's 1/3 of what I bring home, now.
So, basically, the government 'extorts' a part of your paycheck. Pays you NO interest. You can pay in a million dollars and only get $50,000 before you die...
What if I passed legislation that would allow you to opt out of the Social Security program? You could go to your local bank and open an account, similar to an IRA or Good Growth Stock Mutual Fund that returns a 8-12% interest, that you could have taken out of your regular checking account and put into this special account - tax free, but you can't pull from it until you turn 65.
Here's the outline:
If you're 30 or younger as of January 1, 2013 you can opt out of the Social Security program so long as you:
-open a PSS (Personal Social Security) account - starting with a $0 balance. -you forfeit all funds you've put into the Federal system, so far (leave in the 'pool' for the current elderly - after all, we do owe them for the freedom we have.)
If you're 40 or younger as of Jan. 1, 2013 you can opt out of the SS program so long as you:
-open a PSS account - with a starting balance of $2500 of your own money. -you forfeit all funds you've put in so far.
If you're 50 or younger as of Jan. 1, 2013 you can opt out of the SS program so long as you:
-open a PSS account - with a starting balance of $5000 of your own money. -you forfeit 50% of your earned SS earnings - living off your PSS for the balance.
If you're 60 or older you will remain on the current system until you die - feeding off of the remaining balance of the 'jackpot' and the continuing 50% from the 50 year olders.
You can, at any age, choose the percentage that's pulled from your income [3%, 4%,...10%, etc], so long as you pull out of any claim for assistance from the government.
Special exemptions will be: Unforeseen disabilities* and.....well, that's about it.
Just, don't get hurt!
So, what is it?
Pay the government a million, at no interest, and get 15% of it back? Or, pay yourself a million and reap over $7.5million over 40 years after interest and get all of it?
*They do sell 'Long Term Disability Insurance', you know...

This is pretty good. Its like your own social security you put away money for yourself now and it's there for you when you reach the age rather than the government collecting a percentage of the wages of current working people and using that as the bank to pay it out to the retired.
That looks like a plan that could actually work. Getting it through congress could be a little hard because the 2 houses of congress really don't want too many problems solved they want to tell you what the problems are but if you vote for me, I will fix them. But they don't.

PS, even if you're not a US Citizen it could be to your benefit to work on something similar to this method. IT takes some budgeting. you have to actually set the money aside or have it direct deposited. If you just drink the whole weeks pay and dont' set it aside then you're screwed.
I however think we all kind of make our own bed most of the time anyway.

Interesting proposal. You don't think you should take a free ride since you have been providing one for countless people.
Oh I don't mean the retired who worked all their life. I don't mean the injured and ill.
I mean those who get their butt fired and their unemployment goes six months with a possible extension. They can take unemployment for a full six months without any attempt to get a job. Then they make false attempts to convince the State to extend them another six months until the job that doesn't make you do it comes along.
You know one of those positions where you get a title and are paid but you don't do anything but collect a paycheck. Those make up part of the six percent Phil mentioned because at least a hundred of them were on the Clinton White House Staff.

Mahnarch's proposal would operate similar to a more advanced 401K.

YESSSS! Thank you, all!
My plan is exactly like a 401k! The funds would be pulled from your paycheck before taxes are taken out (until I enact the 'Fair Tax' - which will void all income taxes, period) and put it directly into your own PSS account.
I'm also thinking about HSA (Health Savings Accounts) which basically run on the same principle. You collect, over time, a certain amount and use a debit/ATM card instead of a health insurance card for doctor's visits.
80% of your current doctor bills has to deal with your insurance company (time invested). If you pay cash you get a discount!.....hopefully.
Same deal with car insurance.
You pay for years and years. Never get into an accident.
Where's the money go?!
I say, you collect, say, $15,000 in a PCI (Personal Car Insurance) account and never pay 'All State' another penny.
I'll also cap 'Personal Injury' lawsuits at $15,000 - for those fakers who board a public transport bus after an accident and claim they got whiplash.
[$15,000 for the group! - each additional 'claimant' brings less to the others (i.e. - 2 people = $7,500 a piece, while 15,000 claimants = $1 a piece.)
U.S. citizens should be able to take care of themselves - not dependent on the government from cradle to grave.
The job of the government is 'to protect it's citizens from the marauder' - not to babysit.
That marauder can be foreign....or domestic (.....*cough cough..Senate..cough*...)
Congress wants[/b] you to be dependent on the Social Security program because it gives them power. That's their only goal.
Keep 'Public Education' down to a level where citizens are only smart enough to be sheep - complacent, law abiding, head nodders to anything they say.
My sole goal is to give the U.S. back to it's citizens.
CITIZENS!!![/B]
The more power I give back to my people the more Congress will hate me. The more Congress hates me, the more they'll screw up, trying to overpower me. The more they screw up, the more power I will have to shove their jobs down their throats.
The harder they push the harder my fist will slam the desk.
Pelosi: Mr. President. So good to see you... President Mahnarch: *stone faced* "You're standing in my way."

It has recently come to my attention that Senator Byrd is senile (my words).
First things first, elected or no, I'd put him front and center and make him perform a competency test.
If he fails, I will "ask" him to resign (with respect and pension.) If he refuses, I will call for a vote of 'No confidence' and have him suspended from his position until a proper (non-liberal) mental evaluation could be conducted to decide if he's mentally fit to hold his position.
[When] he's found ill-fit, there will be a special election to replace him.
***
Like I've said before: I'll give 'Spring Cleaning' a whole new meaning.
***
Hillary has said: "Barak doesn't have any experience...."
Experience doing what? Being President?
As far as I know only 43 people in the entire history of the U.S. have experience being President..
Being a Senator doesn't build Presidential experience.
It's like saying, "I've mopped the floor at NBC for 15 years. That makes me eligible to be a CEO!."
***
I hate politics but, I see no other choice than to assume control, really. I will turn those elitist bass tards on their heads.
And the media will have a field day with me.
I would buy stock in 'Toner' and 'Paper' futures if I were you.

Actually its 42 people because Grover Cleveland was President 22 and 24.
Just kidding I know what you mean. I dont know what Hillary thinks shes telling us when she says experience but the best way to tell if a Clinton is lying their lips are moving. Experience I agree she doesnt have what she claims to be experience. She has 7 years in congress but she hasnt gotten anything done to speak of.
Like her commercial "Its 3am and the Presidential phone rings" the question being who would you like to answer that in a emergency situation? Out of this years line up, for me its McCain hands down. IT IS CERTAINLY NOT HILLARY I would even put Obama higher than Hillary on that because he has no track record of botching that situation.

Shut up, Kimm. We don't need your "facts".......he-he.
But, the 'Phone rings at 3AM strikes me as interesting.
With me it'll be, "If that phone rings at 3AM...somebody better be dead or dying."
Of course, I'll take on all emergencies when they come up but, I'd love to stand up at one of the many podiums during the campaign and call each candidate out on their stupidity for crap like that.
Hillary: "I would like to Socialize Healthcare" (to sum it up)
Mahnarch: "So, you want to add $13.6billion dollars in taxes so Mexicans and welfare citizens can get free liposuction?
Hilllary: "Uhhh. Uhm. Ahh.. Hmm" *drinks water*
-I added extra spaces to that text because I don't want her name even coming close to touching mine.

I guess it ends up coming down to the old adage. if you give a man a fish you can feed him for a day but if you teach him to fish you can feed him for life.
I would rather learn to fish. I think it's important that everybody does metaphorically speaking.
My 4 year old will be 5 this summer. We have decided that he will at least be able to tie shoes without hesitation by September when he starts kindergarten.
Right now I don't mind tying the shoes for him since he is 4. So if he comes over and says 'dad, my shoes came undone.' I will help him but that's a project for the summer. A small project, yes but an important 1.
I don't expect Jason who is 11 to be able to go out and earn a living now, he is only 11. But I expect him to get his routine homework done without getting stuck on simple arithmetic and multiplication.
But there starts coming a time when responsibilities become more.
I would like him to go to college and graduate. If its not for him but he can do something productive, I could swallow hard and deal with that as long as he was either in the service or doing a job that was conceivably a lifetime career.
I took my job in May of 1990 as summertime help. There was a guaranteed fulltime opening for October.
We all make decisions in this life. My parents both told me not to take it, stay in college.
The thought of being poor for 3 more years and maybe getting a job in my field of study after that didn't seem as attractive as full wages and full benefits right then at age 19 with some travel on the job.
So I took it.
Do I regret it? Sometimes. I sometimes think that in 3 years more options could have been open to me. I probably am paid just as much now as if I would be at the same age with the full education, but I probably wouldn't be if I changed careers. But with that piece of paper you have more options that's the main thing.
I wouldn't have even a lateral job but I have taken the available training and leaned the things the main guys know making me paid higher than just a 8 hour a day guy. And I got a class B license so I can drive their trucks that exceed 20,000 Ilb
Most of my colleagues haven't bothered to go those routs. So they're paid less.
My wife and I also have some 401k funds being put aside weekly.
If social security was still there so much the better but I think most of us can take steps not to need it.

I do think Social Security could and probably still will be there. My Dad says they've been threatening that it could be gone since he was a child.
But I think Phil and Mahnarch are right too that it's a great idea to set aside money for yourself for a longer term savings too.

I see Social Security as 'Legal Extortion' and a Federal Fraud system.
I want smaller government and less dependence from citizens.
With less Federal money to hand out, the less the chance some leftist liberal will hand it out to people who didn't contribute. (Illegal Immigrants, to be exact.)
