These prices are getting even more out of hand. I remember complaining when it got to be about two bucks a gallon but some people especially my Dad said that I shouldn't complain because Gas hasn't increased as quickly. Now it has more than tripled in the last two years. That just seems like big Business holding the product hostage.

Sorry to any of the few Bush lovers we have a guy who owns a gas company as our president, if you expect him to do anything.... Laugh at yourself... I don't see a drop in this coming along any time soon.... on the bright side, in Guatemala gas is 19 cents there... Only because like 1/100 have a car Hopefully our upcoming president whoever it is will be more productive and push towards a new type of car, I think in the end well have to end up in solar power cars, we have the technology, just our bullsh*t president wont do anything... A guy actually made a car that ran on solar power he lved in a town about 15 mintues from here, he started to get it known and he was killed... Wonder who was behind it *points to government*

Wait a minute. Bush is the one who wants to drill our own supply for oil but he is getting heavy rebuttal from Congress.
There's another factor.
My Dad has an auto repair shop and they sold Gasoline at one time but not anymore. In 1998 when someone else was President the Government mandated that filling stations have a variety of tanks and pumps that had only been in production for a few years.
That basically meant that if your pumps and tanks were over five years old you were going to have to do one of two things. Remove your pumps and tanks and get out of the Gasoline business, or install new pumps and tanks.
That would be a hugely expensive proposition on a product where the retailer himself only received a small profit. So, my Dad and most people in the same position got out of the gasoline sales portion of the business.
Check your memory banks, can you remember some car repair places that sold gas before and no longer do so? If you can they probably made the same decision my Dad made.
If it was a food mart/convince store then there would likely be no choice because the rest of the business of the store would only be attracted by customers who were in to fill their tanks. Most of those places are owned or at least supplied by the oil companies anyway so they couldn't get out of the gasoline retail business nomatter what the construction needed would be.
So, that also leaves if half the people in a suburban town got out of that part of the business, it would allow for higher mark up especially when most of the independent retailers are the ones who got out.

You call American gas prices expensive?
By my calculations Unleaded is $8.37 a gallon over here, with Diesel prices being even higher. I will now weep.

I hate to make you feel any worse, but at least that made me feel a little better. ;D Not really. The oil is through the roof everywhere apparently.

You cant blame bush although he has played a part in this, but it was bound to go up I saw this coming like 3 years ago; its not just gas everthing has gone up Wal-mart has gone up and damn am I hurt so has the cost of living. Imagine living in L.A,Miami,San Diego or any big city where cost of living is ridicously expensive.

It seems like supply and demand to me. China wants more gasoline, so the price goes up. It's fun to complain about a conspiracy, but not really accurate.

Isn't big business holding hostage at least a little bit though? I have to believe that the World isnt' really on the verge of running out anytime soon. That makes me think the guys with the Supply are placing the big demands.

Heh, try having a Silverado 3500 with an 8.1 liter engine. There's a gas eater. I consider myself fortunate that it gets about 13 miles a gallon but now that gas is over 4 dollars a gallon I find it stupid that oil companies are boasting 40 billion profits.

China has recently hit an economic boom, more and more vehicles are being driven out there everyday, they are hogging the hell out of gas, im sure this is also a huge contributor to the cost of gas, if they were settled as they were before, it could atleast be a little cheaper...

I suggest this site to all www.craigslist.comits a great site to find cheap things, you can find things close to your location, ive seen some decent cars with great mpg, ive seen geo metros on there for around $1,000 (they get about 35 mpg) they dont look great, but there excellent fuel cars for todays prices. Just thought I'd share this site with anyone who is interested in finding a good cheap car with great gas mileage.

Vortec 8100 Chevrolet V8. Big, powerful but hungry. Thirsty is probably a better word. We're ooking at $3.94 for 87 octane, 4.07 for in between and 4.14 for the highest grade are the prices per gallon in Bradford right now. It's more some other places too.

I have the F350 and it's a hog too. I also have a Mustang GT and it's not exactly a 4 cylinder Focus for fuel economy either.
But what can we really do? Is not drive really an option? Somebody else already brought this up I know but I don't think it is.
Phil mentioned oil co making 40 billion profits if that's the case they could sell it for 2 bucks and make 20 billion dollar profits.

Nah... It doesn't work linearly, although I agree that they would still be making MASSIVE profits if they cut prices somewhat.

I wasn't going to gas until tomorrow, but I had to get gas yesterday since I was almost on Empty. I drive a Honda, which normally has good gas mileage, and I don't have to pay a lot for gas. Gas yesterday where I live cost $3.99, and I put $30.00 worth of gas into the tank, and it didn't even go all the way up to Full. I guess that's what I get for waiting till the last minute to fill up. Stupid gas prices.
