The fence idea I think is bullsh*t and may put a damper on relations between us and Mexico, though they should not be coming in illegally, I've got no idea how the process of becoming a citizen works and how hard it may be. I'd say just stronger security is needed, just crack down harder. I'd say, the ones who are in illegally, if they're up to no good, get rid of them, but if they're decent people, force them to work and pay to live, and background checks should be done if suspected they snuck in. Aligators in the water is a funny idea but just won't happen because you know, that'd be seen as "inhumane."

Fences are a pretty bad way to keep people out of a whole country unless at least one of these: -It's China -It's a small country like the Vatican -The fence is like a mile high and made out of rocks with barbed wire, automated machine guns, and broken glass on the top.

OH! Good idea, Brick.
The U.S. could have it's own 'Great Wall'.
It kept the Mongols at bay, it should work here. Line the south facing wall with broken glass and definately automated guns and/or lasers.

Exactly! Now you get it! And we can force the ones that get here to make the wall itself for 3 cents an hour.

Hmm, curious quandry....
Why would you have invaders make the very item that's to prevent them from invading?
It's like handing Skeletor the keys to Greyskull so he can do drawbridge repairs. Or, giving Magica D'spell the "Number One Dime" to have it appraised.
I say, get all the citizens that lost their jobs to illegals together to build it. They'd be rearin' to go and probably build in a lot of overkill.

Well, they'd do it cheaper and not take anyone's job. Plus we could tell them it was for something else, like....
Um...
To keep the aids in? Wait, that begins with an 'a' do you believe in it?

A virus that you can see with an electron microscope? Sure.
I'm an Athiest. Do you believe in me? I can walk up and shake your hand.
The list of 'A's that don't belong is very short - one or two items at most.
But, I leave this subject alone because we cannot convey proper debate through the written word.
I would need to do a proper 'Power Point Presentation'. But, they most skeptic cannot be told otherwise.
I guess it works both ways.

No, it's to protect the flora and fauna from further destruction from our species.
Brick, don't undermine the Mexican's intelligence.

I still can see both sides of it even though I have made some facetious posts.
Classicblast's brother has even sponsored a few Mexicans and gotten jobs for them.

Cactus is right. Just because they're from another country, doesn't mean they're stupid.
I mean, why else would they cross over if they didn't understand basic economics and the currency conversion.
For that, I do salute them. I just wish they'd come here legally, that's all.

If you really think I was serious about telling Mexicans that a giant wall with glass and machine guns on top was to keep aids in, I'm amazed. I'm kinda undecided on immigrants, but the fence=waste of money and time. It'll end up being like the Big Dig and cost too much money and start falling apart the moment we finish. Also, if you put alligators in there, they're actually quite easy to stop from eating you. Just hold their jaws together. Many people know that, so you're calling them stupid now.

True, you can stop them that way,,,but would YOU want to straddle a gator to do it?
Not me.

I've seen a few things, news related, and agree with you on the fence being a waste of money. That's my premise behind this thread.
I don't know. It's like....if it were easier to go through the process, I think they 'might' go for it. Put out tables with citizenship applications instead of a fence. Make it handy for them.
The only REAL problem I have is the learning english part. They are going into a foreign country and forcing their lifestyle on those nationals (us).
Like I said before, you wouldn't go to Turkey and expect them to speak english and also let you carry a firearm just because you're there. (although, I believe firearms are legal in Turkey.)
If they want to come here to live and get citizenship, COME ON DOWN!!!,,,,errr, UP! I've got beers for everyone! It's the sneakiness and undermining that gets me. I feel like they've broken into my car and stolen the radio when they cross illegally. (not a direct metephor, but the 'feeling' of it.)
