A wheelchair bound man was crossing the street when his chair got caught in the grille of a tractor trailor and pushed him down the street several miles at 50 or 60mph. news.aol.com/topnews/articles/_a/truck-takes-man-in-wheelchair-on-wild/20070607152809990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001He was fortunate because he was unharmed other than being scared out of his wits. Some people are wondering how that can happen without the truck driver knowing but it is possible. Having worked for the railroad for years I can say there have been recorded times a train was pushing a car or some other object but since the trian is so much more powerful than the other object it pushed it right along. So I can see how a tractor trailor could have a wheelchair hung on it and not feel the difference. As the man's father said 'it's a bad story with a happy ending.'

It's a good thing he wasn't hurt. It's a miracle actually.
I was reading about this and I was about to say how is it possible for the driver not to know? But I guess that a man and a wheelchair would be relatively light in comparison to a big rig.

Lastnight we had to clean up on a railroad track someone put a storage shed on the tracks and a train rammed it and blew it to bits. It was proably a 8x12 movable shed.
Not hard to rectify.

I'm glad the guy was alright, Phil, at least it was just an 8x12 shed rather than an outhouse.

The link is no good, anymore, Phil.
But, I can attest to this. Especially since the driver was in a Volvo. You can't see for 15ft in front of you over the nose and a wheel chair would be a mere bug in the grill.
A full-sized pick up truck could crash into my trailer and I wouldn't feel it.
*tink*
Me: "What was that? Hmm....." *drives off*

Is a Volvo higher than other trucks or is it just a visibility thing in that model of Rig?

A Volvo has a square nose that doesn't angle down as much as a newer Frieghtliner. It'd be like sitting in the driver's seat of your car and lifting the car up about 10ft off the ground.
With every inch of height, you'd lose quite a bit of front area visibility.
I'd say that the Mack trucks and Kenworths are worse, though.

What has about the bestvisibility in a big truck?

Best visibility would be the older 'flat faced' Mack (70s?). The ones where the driver sits over-top of the engine and the whole cab flips forward to get to it. There's an old saying that goes with these trucks, too. "The driver is always the first one to get to the scene of an accident." lol But, of the newer ones, it'd have to be the new bodystyle Freightliners. The hood is pretty much a straight down slope right from the windshield. They stopped making the flat=faced tractors due to heat going into the cabs and for aerodynamics. Plus, you couldn't leave your coffee cup in the holder and check the oil without making a mess. Here's what I drive, now-days. (Not 'These ones', but similiar) As far as the worst, like I said before are the Kenworths and newer Macks. I mean, look at that nose!!

I think it's a problem with Photobucket, not with the forum. You hosted the pictures at that size. Host them at the larger size, then link those pictures.

I'm new to photobucket, too. But, I'll check it out, see what I can do.
Thanks.
[Update: I don't think I can do anything on PB. Maybe I can find bigger source pics?]
