I've never driven a car. I only play simulators (like Forza 2). I always drive in manual because I can brake at a shorter distance (since gearing down make the engine brake the car). I want a real car so I can drive it. And feel the amazement of real transmission. I may be a lefty, but I'm cross dominant in many things.

Left handed people can still drive a manual transmission. And even with a real car you can gear down and brake in shorter distances. So you're right on the money about that.
My Mustang is a five-speed but my truck is automatic.
To me it depends what it is. I don't want to shift in a family type car but the kick back acceleration in the Mustang is better with the five speed. I've driven the same motored Mustangs with automatic and they're powerful but not the same toss you back in your seat effect.

I would have answered this differently at one time than now. I voted automatic. I guess that shows my age. I am 38 and I prefer automatic now. I still don't mind driving stick though.
Most of our trucks in the fleet are automatic now except for the big trucks and thers' some old trucks that are manual yet.
I am disgusted with the amount of guys who work for me that are 18 to 35 years old and don't know how to drive a stick. Gulp. Men in an industrial field not knowing how to drive a manual transmission. Specified a guy 23 years old who grew up on a farm. How is that even possible? I have to make sure he gets an automatic truck for his assignments.

I got that E-Mail how's that old dumptruck of yours?
I'm still willing to cruise it if we can find a time that works for us. Am I going to be able to afford the gas that it's going to drink for this jaunt?

I voted manual as it is the norm in the UK, automatics aren't rare but certainly a lot less common then automatics.

With my mum moving in with me it gives me an opportunity to drive mum's Toyota 4-Runner 5-speed. I keep driving it like my Volvo tractor - starting in 4rth, wide corners, not using the clutch to shift, etc.

My 87 Chevy had the 4 speed with a granny gear. More like a 3 speed because you really dont need 1st gear. The truck I have now is automatic and I like it better. There was a time I didn't but I'm 36 year old father of 3 I'm transitioning into the old man stage I guess.

Every time I drive my mum's Toy, I keep wanting to drag the shifter down from 5th into "6th" (reverse).
Then, when I jump into my semi I keep leaving it in 9th.
...and I'm still not used to using a clutch in mum's Toy.
