Some of what's being given to my son is not really that constructive but more toy like for now. Remembering that he is just two and not really ready to build a ton of things with his legos yet.
He will be ready pretty soon though sooner than we may think. I have no idea really but this Christmas is is getting some lego products.
They're bigger and more toylike than the smaller pieces that come in the common kits because he's still in the try to eat whatever will fit in your mouth stage of life. But it's a start of a second generation of Lego men.
I have gotten a few K'Nex kits too. They're real nice. Obviously a little too advanced for my son right now.

I saw a lego on the floor once. Oh yeah? What color was it? Was it square or rectangular? Was it a pivot?

Wow, this is a meaningful conversation. I think LEGOs are good for kids. They build up the creative and thinking part of the brain.

Lego's encourage violence? You made a weapon using legos? AT A YOUNG AGE?
SOMEONE CALL JACK THOMPSON, I'VE FOUND THE CAUSE OF ALL YOUTH VIOLENCE! Down with the accursed Danish blocks of sin! Legos are corrupting our children! BAN ALL LEGOS!!!

Vanilla is all about the children, we can't have them making weapons, like, all that. Pots in my lungs, Vanilla says legos are not to be approved of.

Oh come on that's not violence. John Wayne was a gunsman and totally cool.
A rubberband shooting gun that holds seven rounds would be awesome at the school cafeteria line.

Guys, guys, you aren't seeing the big picture here. With a bit of assembly, bombs can be constructed from LEGO bricks, as illustrated here: Stop the insanity! Ban LEGO bricks today!

It's more like a rubber assault rifle, because it has both semi-auto and automatic fire. It holds a lot of bands too... nice. I want one!
I haven't built anything quite so cool out of legos. The most interesting thing I've made is a K'nex crane that I use to hold my shortwave antenna. It's not very sturdy but I'm proud of it anyway.

Everywhere in my son's room is LEGO!! Standing on some in the dark is hell. It's always the same at weekends...father and son, lego all over the living room, making cars, houses, etc.,guess who cleans it up?? Me. Some of the things they have made together are pretty cool, though.
