I read in a recent article that a Code device used in World War 2 was being sold on Ebay. These code typers are usually located in Museums and it is quite strange that someone should have such a thing that is so rare. I haven't checked and I don't know what price but it should be going pretty high.

The auction can be seen here. Anything can be sold on Ebay... no big suprise for me. It can be seen by a larger market than in a private auction.

Anything can be sold on Ebay... Firearms cannot be sold on eBay, and there are some other banned items as well. A bootlegged Game Boy Color game known as Telefang was sold in two versions in the United States as Pokémon Diamond and Jade and is banned from some online auctions like eBay nowadays, considering it's not a genuine Pokémon game.

Talking of the enigma machine, the main codebreaking place is just down the road from me. Literally! (well, the main road through the city)

I think Ebay is a wonderful thing for shopping. I have found things there I could not find anywhere else. I still have to wonder if some of the things are authentic. I bought some movies on Dvd that were not in labels but a simple packing so that probably means they're bootlegged but they played all right so I didn't care.

I meant that as a hyperbole... of coure everything can't be sold, but there is such a large range of things you can find there.

dude, the enigma was incredibly awesome. it replaced each key typed with a different letter, then another, then another, based on three dials. every time a key was struck, the dials changed. I think they each had 9 or 10 positions and turned like a stopwatch counting up. there was also a mirror to send it back through the dials again. only another Enigma could decode it, until Alan Turing invented the Bombe, which cracked the code.

I don't know why this reminded me of an old story, but when I was in sixth grade there was a kid in second grade on the bus who would always pretend he was in World War II flying a plane and attacking the Japs in the Pacific. It had something to do with he saw a movie about the battle of midway. He was seven.

I dont know how authentic everything that is found on ebay might be but I still find everything associated with historic events interesting.
I should be a teacher by the spring of 2007 and then I'll try to have a teaching job for the 2007-2008 school year. ;D
