The last few days I've been invisible, both at Lewasite and in person.
I accepted a chance to participate in a baseball tournament that took place over the weekend. This was the first competitive baseball I have played since retiring from AA ball.
The level of competition wasn't the same as AA being that they're not all pros or former pros, but I was not the only one. It was a good tourney. There were 30 teams from an area of about 600 miles in each direction. And our team won the tournament.
It's not exactly a World Series but it's pretty cool. And I was a dominant player. I felt good about baseball for the first time since walking off the field for the last game in 2009. At that time I did so for the most part knowing that was the end of the line for me.
I have a chance to participate with this group in two or three more tournaments before the summer is up.
Obviously I am 38 now, but I can still play ball especially on a largely scaled down brand of baseball.
And for the first time winning wasn't as important. Obviously you always want to win when you're playing a game but in my 16 seasons and before that actually even back to high school baseball losing could mean getting moved to the bench or moved down the batting order, and that pressure wasn't involved in this tourney.
So that's where I've been. And my boys were old enough to watch me play.

The pitching probably wasn't as fast as what you're used to. Probably most of the players were good recreation league players but not on par with what you played against.

Yeah actually I was not the only ex minor leaguer in that. The Tournament took place in Lenore City Tennessee. They came from as far as Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, northern Florida, Virginia, Kentucky and possibly Oho. So it was a pretty wide spread event. I'm hoping they put this same team in for one that's going to be in Horn Lake Mississippi later this summer.

So a few days ago I was introduced to a 18 year old finishing high school. Not the same kids with the loud music. Well anyway they're pushing this kid to play professional baseball. But he's a crass asshoIe. He has no class, he talks like he's the next Barry Bonds and doesn't think he needs any ability to do anything else.
My opinion as a baseball player since I was 5 years old, and a former pro this guy wont make it.
He's not quite good enough, and if he has the mechanics to get there, well he doesn't have the drive. He lacks discipline and dedication.
I think I touched a nerve when I told that to his wannabe agent.

That's the arrogance of this generation. Life comes too easy to them so they don't think they have to do any ground work to prepare.
They can google their homework and get close enough answers to appease the assignment. But they haven't learned they only answered a question and got a grade.
Jason has a few friends his age or just a bit older their parents are buying then new cars. NEW CARS!!! Really?
He's getting my dad's 2002 Lincoln Continental. A nice car, yes. A great car when brand new but now its 11 years old with about 125,000 miles on it. Well, its a car for him to use til he can buy what he wants. He will have to do that on his own.
I am going to help a little. I added the car to my insurance to make it less expensive than if it was just for Jason, but he will have to pay the premiums. He has a part time after school job, and is learning to save money.
We're not a gifted as you Classic, we can't take a baseball pitched at 100 miles an hour and hit hard enough to clear a fence 400 feet away.
But since that kid can everybody else must blow his nose for him.

I think its nice that Jason is going to get to use your dads car. I know from your youtube that your dad was and you are good with cars so this will be a blessing for Jason.
And you and Classic are right. Kids in school dont care that much about their homework or projects I know so much of it is internet searched and they read the first thing that came up and minimal or no thought went into it.
The kid classic is talking about is a total as$ I doubt he will go anywhere.
