I don't know why so many people who have experienced storms before don't just go to someone's place or get motels for the time of the storm. I don't know if they figure they have no where to go, or they don't believe the warnings or they figure the storm will end up not being as bad as predicted or what.. I realize some of these forecasts end a lot of times end up not living up to prediction but isn't it still safer to get out of its way especially when you know approximately where its going to be. Unlike how Beangirl explains the earthquake you don't know when where or for how far of a distance. Storm followers can narrow these things down enough that mostly you can get out of harm's way.

Not too soon it seems. Her apartment building in lower Manhattan has water damage at street level. Power likely to be out until the weekend. She is a lawyer and her office building has no power either. They are moving to a temporary building until power is restored.

classicblast I agree. when people get warnings of storms best thing they can do is check into a hotel if possible to be safe. I know some can't afford it but sometimes you can go with a group and split the cost. one person on facebook made a comment this storm was all hype and they are sure it will be a non-event. I gave them examples on how to prepare because the guy needed to hear it. I knew it was going to be bad and I cancelled my trip to philly so I can get supplies. but you know what's crazy there were people shopping the day of the storm and after for batteries and other stuff. they had a week to prepare and the day of the storm it was just chaos. I had my extra blankets washed, laptop charged up fully along with cell phone before the power hit off, flashlights ready to go. I got a lot of weather updates about what is happening around me just from facebook. lots of flashes in the sky I thought was lightning but it was transformers being hit. the pp&l crew has been great after the storm. lots of manpower out there to restore power to everyone working around the clock.
