i can't believe we are in October already. wow where did summer go? I finally got the summer I wanted and do things I never experienced before. but it's hard thinking of those good times and knowing right around the corner is snow nnnnnnoooooooo lol. retail has been a nightmare to say the least. there are certain people on at night who suck up to the managers and get out of doing returns. that really ticks me off. there has been a lack of help for 4 months now. friday night was horrific. me and pat spent 30 minutes cleaning the fitting room. there was a mountain of clothes on the table and piles in some of the rooms. this is not acceptable. who wants to change in a dirty fitting room with clothes all in there? to top it off one night I picked a big pile of clothes off the floor in the room where I found upc tags. the stuff was stolen. had someone cleaned it in the daytime they would of seen that. me and pat are worried with christmas and black friday around the corner we dersperately need more help. loss prevention affects everyone. stuff gets stolen our hours get cut. they need to start preventing this better. that's why I like walmart they have a fitting room attendant to make sure shopping carts don't go in the rooms. their rooms when I been there get cleaned out good. but friday was one of the worst days to be in that place. it was only me and pat and we were suposed to get a cashier to help on the floor only she was a no call no show. I spent a hour in footwear doing shoes while covering jewelery. so the stuff that didn't get done is day shifts to do. I was off yesterday and pat worked 5-10 so if people were slacking i'll hear about it today. but I can't be covering all of jewelery footwear and clothing. softlines is trashed everyday as it is.

Stores are already putting things out for Christmas and its not even Halloween yet.
They always did that with commercials but the stores themselves are already having Christmas items out. I think its too early. But it starts earlier and earlier every year. Then again Blastgirl has already done a lot of our Christmas shopping she starts early. But She is way more organized than I am.

stores do try and shove christmas down our throats as early as possible. a lot of parents spend way to much on video game systems and the newest toys. but that should not define christmas. it's the thought that counts and spending time with loved ones. Classicblast that's good timing she is doing the christmas shopping now. then she won't have to worry about long lines and last minute shoppers. it's great to get done early.

It's not so much that they like Christmas as much as they want your money. If it was the true spirit of things wouldn't bother me as much.

They do want your money. Wal Mart brought back layaway early this year. It was Nov.to December 13th last year. We have started it on Sept 29th this year.

I love Black Friday now but I hated it when I worked in a department store.

i work thanksgiving 4-12 and black friday 3-11. I have not had off for thanksgiving since 2007. the overtime will be great but it gets depressing sometimes. stores are all about taking your money and people are fighting black friday over the biggest deals. I have panic attacks that day because the store gets mobbed. I am glad I don't have morning shift. but the store will be trashed on friday with people throwing things all over the floor and dropping clothes off the rack. I have not gotten into the holidays because of dealing with all the rude people. someone yelled I am going into the fitting room. I didn't know they were yelling at me until they screamed at me across girls wear. I guess when they were kids they never learned manners. and I have had it up to here with people yelling hey you and getting mad at me for not answering.

Working hoidays can be a different language altogether.
I have said I started my job in 1990 and I never really had holidays off at all til I was about 34 or 35 years old enough people retired I get most of them off now. But that's still not a sure thing if there's a problem I could be called in there's no guarantee. But I can generally count of holidays off now. It took about 15 years for that to happen. But its like strange in my job. There's no supervisors you get a list of things to do. Busy work. Some guys when not supervised want to make it a do nothing but get paid to be there.
You do get time and a half to work plus the holiday pay. But that should mean you get all you can done not you waste time at someone else's expense.
But it tends to drag on because there's not much do to when so many departments are not operating that unless there's a problem its just about a coast shift. What sucks the most about it is when you're just about at quitting time the next day hung over guys call off and you get stuck when you worked the holiday besides.

that would drive me crazy if I have to cover for people who need to drink. they should be in control and know when to much is to much. adults should just know their job comes first. I just hate picking up the slack of others because they don't care about their job and they refuse to help me. I have not worked a double shift since 2 years ago which was around thanksgiving. I know it's really exausting. that was when 2 or 3 people decided to quit their jobs by a phone call. we got slammed that day with returns and the store was a mess. I was so mad.

if anyone has any horror stories about black Friday or thanksgiving I am dying to hear it. work was horrible tonight with shoppers. they were out of control and rude. people yelled at me across the store demanding to know where stuff is. nobody cares that us employe's gave up our holiday for some shoppers that are just greedy. I worked 4-12 and we closed the store down at 4pm to get ready for the 8pm deals. well when we opened there was a bob around the corner of the store outside. many tried line jumping but my manager made them line up single file. on the floor I almost got run down with shopping carts. people drove them like race cars and trashed the store. I was called to checkouts through most of the night. we had lines into ladies wear from checkouts. I waited 7 hours just to get dinner and got out at 11:30 so I had no time for my last 15 minute break. 10 minutes before 12 I get called back to checkouts and didn't leave the store until 12:30. it was worse then last year and kmart was understaffed. for some reason they didn't think thanksgiving night would be busy. at least the good thing was my sister got her christmas gift at target. she got a x-box. it was 300 down to 100 so she saved 100 and there were no lines at that time. now I have to do 3-11 today and I don't want to go in.

Wal Mart started Black Friday at 8 pm Thanksgiving day. I worked from 4 pm till 1 am . It was not as bad as I thought. Very crowded but no real problems except people trying to get stuff before the set time. Lots of great deals on everything. Our store provided us with a hot turkey dinner and pie.I was a guard for merchandise to start at 8 pm.
