i got a email from a recruiter at Dorney park and he asked me if I was interested in working for haunt. I emailed him back yes I would love to so hopefully we can set up a audition soon. haunt is only on weekends so Monday-Wednesday I will tell Kmart I can only work those days if I get the job. I'll need Thursday for one day off to rest. also the extra money would be a blessing since my hours at Kmart are probably not coming back until Christmas holidays. I have never auditioned for haunt so I need to think of creative ways to try out. I am really excited for it and hope they hire me.

Its good that an opportunity to do something you really like is coming up. I can never explain how lucky I was to be a baseball player for 15 years that most people would tell me "Get a real job and give up that dream"
Obviously I wasn't a New York Yankee, a Los Angeles Dodger, or Toronto Blue Jay but I did get to do what I really wanted to if even on a smaller scale.
Most people don't hate their job, and I even like what I am doing now but most people might like their job its not their dream. This can and probably is your dream job.

I think it would be fun to work at a resort.

My nieces worked at Disneyland when they were in high School and during college.I have a cousin who also did when she was young. Disney is real strict with there workers.Working there gives So Cal students a good feel of retail work. They get perks too like special passes for family and restaurant discounts.

It would most definitely be fun to work at an amusement park.

classic I think playing baseball is a real job. you know what you want to do in life and you are going after it. some people sit around thinking about what they want and say it's to hard. my sister has always wanted to work at Disney. I wonder if Dorney will be strict. I emailed about when I am available for my audition so hopefully I hear back tomorrow. it will be a blessing to get away from retail for a little while.

You are right. And there's a lot of people who don't realize how much preparation there is to playing sports besides the games themselves. Standard procedure is you meet at 10am and the manager goes through what he did or didn't like about last night's game. Mostly focused on the negative. Not because you didn't do any thing right, but what you do right doesn't need to be changed. Then after about 45 minutes to an hour of that you practice for a good 30 or 40 minutes. If its raining you do weigh room workouts. Treadmills, mild lifting and pushups, squat thrusts, situps etc. Then you go home or to the motel if you're on the road. You can either rest or go somewhere for a couple hours. Then about an hour before game time you go to the field and practice again til game time. That goes nearly everyday unless its a travel day.

Do resort parks lay their staff off for the off season or do they have clerical and maintenance work for them?

i wish we had amusement parks open till midnight everyday. Dorney closed sometimes due to heavy rain.i love going at the risk of rain or severe thunderstorms because many people won't go to the park in bad weather.

I don't particularly like being in parks in bad weather. You probably like the idea of not having long lines for games and rides. That would be a perk of toughing out the weather.

Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm used to close when it rained back in the 80's, Nevermore.. It is a seller's market and the tourisim is 24/7.Some rides will close in rain. I would not want to ride a coaster like The Silver Bullet with cold rain pelting down on me.

Rain I could see continuing to operate. If it gets to be thunder and lightning I would assume they have to close because that's potentially dangerous. Especially since most of the rides are made of steel and iron.
I also understand that in today's recession it might be cost prohibitive to close unless they absolutely have to.

We don't have major lightning storms here. The lighting strikes are miles up in the air. We get a great show though. ;D Yeah I would think they would close the coasters except Knott's Ghost Rider which is made entirely of wood.
