Anyone make any? I know that I usually don't, but this year I made a couple. 1. Continue losing weight and getting healthy. Since the middle of November I have dropped 30 pounds. My starting weight was 305 pounds and I am now at 275. Being the height that I am (6' 7") the 305 weight wasn't showing that much thanks to my height, but it was slowly beginning to become obvious that some changes needed to be made and soon. I've managed to stay on a good diet thanks to my amazing girlfriend, who cooks good foods and keeps me on track. I want to have kids one day, and being heavy and out of shape is a recipe for disaster for a man my size. Our hearts are already working hard enough to begin with, and that extra weight doesn't do it any favors. I'd like to get down to 250 and remain in good shape. 2. Finish graduate school. The finish line is in sight, with only my Masters Thesis and the associated thesis 1&2 classes standing in my way. I've attained a 3.85 GPA in grad school (basically nothing below an A-), so it's all about finishing up now. I'll be graduating in Masy. 3. Participate here more. As I've grown older I think that an increase in posting is needed from me. I've noticed that Mahnarch has returned and is now posting more, so I think that I should do the same. That's basically it. There's some other things that I want to do, but they've been planned well in advance of the new year. Also, I'll add that the whole 2012 being the end of time and the end of the world is BS and people shouldn't think about that. Anyone else?

I have often said that if self improvement should be a constant. That meaning that I don't think we should wait til January 1st to make changes when changes are in order. Efforts to lose weight, stop smoking, be more dutiful whatever the case may be, efforts could be started at anytime to change policy.
That does not mean that January 1 is not a good measure for a fresh start. I think that the most important thing for most people is to stay with the resolution. I think the biggest problem with people and resolutions is *myself included* once re reach a point of making progress we revert back to our old habits. It starts out missing once and exonerating ourselves by saying that's only once in however long. And it slips back to where we were.
I give Jersey a lot of credit but most people don't have your motivation to stick with things.

I know I'm not.
There's a lot of habits I hope to change. One is I don't always do what I should on time. If I'm tired I put it off and sometimes it becomes a hurry up cause I waited too long. Not procrastination is one of my resolutions. I would also like to be more dutiful about workouts. I've watered down my routines considerably since my baseball career ended and I don't want to lose my durability.

There is 1 resolution I could make. I could use to realize life is short and 1 person can only do so much and perhaps not fret over what doesn't get done in a day's time.
When I look at my dad's gravestone and it shows Aug 5, 1933 -- Jan 16, 2011 I see that life is as sort as a 6 inch line on a 3 foot stone.
So with that get done what you can and don't stew over the rest.

i think the only thing I wanted to do for the new year was take chances. usually I play it so safe but this year I want more risks and adventures. instead of saying I can't I will simply try new things and see where it takes me.

I think if not done foolishly that is a very good way to approach things. *I am not implying that you would do something foolish, of course* But what I mean is sometimes you have to take risks to live life and not just observe it. That's not to say we should all go skydiving just to try something new.

I've been on a good system since the new year started to keep myself in good shape. Obviously I am 37 and do not have the endurance I had at 25 but I'd still like to keep myself at the optimum range. I don't want to gain weight and force myself out of the loop like some people do when their career ends. Next month will the third time I did not have spring training. I can not believe how long this is getting to be. I am liking how my life is shaping up in this life after baseball situation.

I had a free appointment with a professional trainer thanks to my contract with the gym. I took advantage of it because it was a good time after losing the 35 pounds I've already lost. He showed me a circuit training workout that thoroughly wiped me out and kicked my butt. Back when I played football as a lineman we always were taught to train for strength and endurance and not weight loss. Now that I'm doing weight loss, it's a whole new animal.
If I keep up with the diet and make sure I do the high intensity circuit training that the trainer showed me at least twice a week, I'll be in the best shape I've ever been in. I did that on Monday and my chest muscles are still stiff and sore. After that one workout I've felt several muscle structures already begin to change. Not only that, but I'm getting closer and closer to losing another pant size. I'll soon be back in my 38 jeans, which is a size I haven't seen since I was a sophomore in high school. Nine years ago.

i would never skydive or do bungee jumping. omg I would be terrified and so many accidents could happen. im afraid of heights even though I go on rollercoasters. my only risks in life are living it to the fullest. live life with no regrets. I think recently I herd of a bungee jumper cord's snapped into the amazon river. I don't know how anyone has the guts to do that.

I think recently I herd of a bungee jumper cord's snapped into the amazon river. I don't know how anyone has the guts to do that. That's not guts, that's lack of good judgment. Its amazing how often lack of good judgment or self respect is passed off as guts. That comes from the same school of thought that thinks ignorant obnoxiousness is humor. We have enough of that at my work. I also agree with you rollercoasters are fun. They also have a track and a charted course and a regulated speed. That's not the same as aimlessly jumping off a cliff hoping an elaborate rubberband will pull you back.

the thing with bungie jumping is that you can die or end up in the hospital with broken bones. I know accidents can happen on a roller coaster and some big ones happened at dorney years ago. 2 trains on hercules crashed into each other cause the breaks failed. it was a wooden coaster. worst that happened to me was being stuck at the top because some idiot smoked a cigerette and threw it on the ground on a hot summer day. it caused a small fire which is why the emergency brake was pushed and security put the fire out. but bungie jumping or jumping out of planes I will never do.

I resolute that I WILL get back in an airplane this year!!
Since I got sick, and my surgeries a year ago, my Mom had a stroke and I became her guardian, my grandfather had a stroke, my great aunt passed away...
I've spent too much time at home and with family matters.
It's time for me.
I also found out that the FAA recently expanded the 3rd Class Airmen Medical, so my certificate is good, again! [Went from 36 calender months to 60 - mine "expired" a year ago but, is good until August '13, now.]

To add to the topic, I wanted to post an update. I am now down 42 pounds. Even though I didn't appear fat before I started the diet and weight loss program I'm on, the difference is becoming very clear and people are starting to notice and ask me about it.

Good for you for taking off so much weight. Youre a big guy and could carry the weight but losing 40+ pounds is no small feet.

I could use to lose some weight for sure.
Not that long ago I tried on a suit coat and I said for a joke "does this make me look fat? My wife said "YOU ARE FAT!"
Nice, huh? Oh well I am so I guess it is what it is.
