when I was leaving work at 5pm I herd a cashier venting someone was texting while with a custormer at checkouts. they should enforce a rule that if any employee sees someone on their phone on the job they should take a bucket of cold water dump it over their head and if their phone breaks it may teach them a lesson. I had a good day today. I got all the returns done so when pat came in at 5 everything looked good. I get annoyed when I leave and stuff isn't done but when I do night shift and everything is done and the store looks good you have a great feeling. I have vacation coming up july 23rd-31st. there is one slacker anna I am glad to get away from. it's good to just get away from it all and relax sometimes.

I should have my brother Thunderbird weigh in here. Thunderbird usually doesn't accept two weeks notice. He says that when someone tells you they're quitting they most likely already quit.
He also says that its probably bad to have them talking about how great they're going to have it and how it's going to suck worse than it already does after they leave.
I know that hasn't always happened but usually he tells the person "if you have a better opportunity you might as well start now."

That sounds a bit harsh but I see where you're coming from.

I agree with Beangirl Jason. If youre going to be riding on a train or waiting for one Id rather know the facility was set up by guys who know what theyre doing and care about the job over someone who just came because they were paid to be there.
Id have more confidence in your dads workmanship than that of a whoever. I know he holds himself to a high standard. And I know he holds you to one too but thats to make sure you and your brothers and sister learn good habits for the rest of your life.

Beangirl and Kimm thank you both for the vote of confidence. I'm mad at a lot of people right now because there was a lot of overtime through out the eastern railroad system last few weeks. Now the 'calling in sick' ratio is through the roof. Its like they got a head so lets take time off.
If I don't go to work I have to be sick as a dog. That's not to say a planned day off isn't necessary sometimes to attend something or whatever. I would not take a day off because I already had 8 hours of overtime and that makes it the same. I'd like to get ahead with the overtime.

Phil I am glad you are here to keep our rails safe. I know too much about "call outs" and hiring "little kids" to do a man's job. Especially here in So Cal where everyday is a "beach day." I know we hard workers are the ones who have to pick up slack.

i think it's great you worked hard at playing baseball. when I was young I would watch the Yankees games and be amazed at how hard they must train for the big game. it takes alot of dedication and hard work. there were many injuries to the players so they always had to be careful. I have seen many people in retail screw around and think wow what's it like to punch in never having to do anything. but the employee's start complaining about that and you can't earn respect that way. slacking was just never for me. I find it disrespectful and embarrasing.
and phil I understand what your saying about having to be sick as a dog to call off work. I have seen people call off just for a cold when all they had was the sniffles. I once went in sick and miserable. the worst was at a water park it turned out I got sick from swallowing to much water. food made me want to throw up. my voice sounded like a man. my ears were in so much pain. I went into work and people were laughing about my page over the pa system until I said that was me. they said omg you sound horrible. try not to talk anymore. the next day I woke up and my ears were in so much pain I was crying. I called off and the manager said thank you for calling I marked you out already. I was told that day I had acute bronchitis and a ear infection. they were kinda mad because if I had waited any longer I would of been in the emergency room. people should understand calling off because they simply want to relax at home is not right. no work= no money.

The people who wine the most about not having money are usually the ones who take time off for stupid reasons too. 'It was my birthday' Are you F'king kidding me?
One of the guys took a Monday and Tuesday off. His 30th birthday was Saturday. So he got so bombed that he needed to sleep it off Sunday, Monday and Tuesday? Another guy took a day off because their softball team won the championship and they went out to party afterwords. And you get drunk enough to miss work? And then cause a overnight shift worker to have to stay and cover it because you got drunk to celebrate softball. Good going a$$hole!!!!
Now I have to double shift and my mother has to take time out of her day to watch my kids til my wife gets home so I can work your dayshift so you can sleep off a softball party hangover.

wow that's horrible and just stupid. they would rather get drunk then have some extra money to go places. you can celebrate your birthday on your day off. I don't get people. it's not fair to you for having to cover for these people. in all my years at kmart I never herd a excuse you have to take 3 days off for a hangover. at kmart they make you turn in a doctor's note or your in trouble now.

I can't believe it either. That's one of the problems with unions even though they had a good purpose at one time.
Our two scrubs were off half the week reasons similar to that. So 3 nights this week it was just myself and Brian and we got just as much done. Not having to babysit by not having to babysit idiots. On the way back to HQ we were in a company truck I was driving and Brian was finishing our report. Brian said to me 'if we were employed by a sole proprietor and they noticed what we did without Larry, Moe and Curly *not their real names, wink* they'd most likely be let go.
