Oh dear, I'm very sorry to hear about such news. I hope you have been able to cope with this well. I've seen it to be difficult to talk to somebody about these subjects. I hope everything is alright for the both of you.

Its not difficult to talk about him because we were so close. We weren't just father and son we were friends. My kids are pretty sad without their grandfather. You'd be amazed how much like a kid he could be. But therefore he'd be a lot of fun to take them to parks and shows.
Thanks for the mention too Vix. We definitely weren't ready to give him up but that's not our decision a higher power decides. And he had a good life for sure.

I may be late to say something here, but I'm happy to hear you were close. It's too bad he didn't get to see your kids grow up. Since I was 13 I had no more living grandparents. I hope you all have lots of happy memories of good times!

I think so even my little sister will remember him because we saw him almost everyday and its never too late to say something its nice that you did say something i can hardly believe its been over a month since he died it really makes me sad still but people die and there was no suffering thats best of all

I know I'm still in shock over this. Not shock like I can't believe it so much as I'm finding new ways and things I miss about my father everyday. Its easy to not realize what a big part someone can have in your life.

Parents are such a big part of family tradition and to not have them there is so painful.

My father called today to ask about Easter week. My parents are going to fly down on Good Friday spend the weekend here and then fly home on Monday with our boys for the rest of the week. Then Blastgirl's brother (Dannyboy) to site members is going to fly up at the end of the week and get fly home with them.
Its important that they know my family no matter how far away we life.

For sure give them lots of exposure to their other grandparents. The fact that my parents and my wife's parents all lived close is one of the few things that consoles me right now. My kids at least knew my father well before he passed away. I'd be really upset otherwise. I am upset but it would just be that much worse.

Days like today are kind of tough. I'm here waiting for the school buy and thoughts of my dad really kick in. That will become less when the bus gets here and my wife gets home and its dinner time.

I think its nice that you might get your grandfather's car, Jason. I'm sure he would have wanted it go go to you. I hope you get some of his old cars those are really something.

The grandkids sure miss my dad. They also seem to think I have some ability to communicate with him. I wish I did. My daughter said to me today 'I miss grandpa can you say hi to him for me?' We had a little talk.
My sister's daughter is the same age as my son, Eric they're both 7. My niece Margret said 'Uncle Philip do you think Grandpa misses us all?'

That means the Kids see you as the authority. I hope you said that Grandpa misses you all very much and he never stopped loving you. But the kids see you as the top authority.

Thanks Blastgirl it is important to remind the kids that. And I can't be more thankful for the father and grandfather he was to our family.

Phil, and Jason, ever since you posted this topic I have given a lot of thought to things. You mention that your father was 77 and my father is 74 so there's not much difference. I guess its a fit here since you're 39 and I'm 36. But you discussed often how close you are with your parents and how close they are/were with your kids and I think about the fact that I live several hundreds of miles from my parents. Sure there's airplanes and cars we do visit a few times a year. Obviously that's not the same as what you have.
Your kids see both sets of grandparents regularly because both you and your wife are local to your community. Me obviously not being a native of this area. My sons see Blastgirl's parents a lot but mine only every now and then. The most recent time being my 4 year olds birthday on February 11.
The next planned visit is Easter my parents and Thunderbird are coming. They're going to spend the weekend and Easter Sunday with us. Then they're going to take my sons home for the rest of the week. Dan, Blastgirl's brother will fly out and get them the following week.
Blastgirl has reservations of the boys being away that long but this topic solidifies to me and to her how important it is that they get exposure as possible to their less visible set of grandparents.

My mother called. She's ready to have a grave memorial *headstone* placed on my father's grave. Now that the weather is warming up they're ready to place a stone. Its gotta be done but its rather hard.
