A fuel filter is important but, with a gasoline engine the engine would act more like it's lacking power and sputter at all speeds (mostly under heavy load - such as coming away from a stop sign/green light)
I'd do it, anyway.
I'd say it's more computer related. Or, could be distributor related.
A crack in the cap, perhaps.

My Dad and I brought it in today. They found that something in my transmission closed, not allowing for third gear or overdrive. $400. I suppose it's better than $2800 for a new transmission. As for the gas/acceleration, we'll try and solve that with a new fuel filter and a tune up.

Transmission.....
Something I forgot to ask.. What year is it?
I seem to remember something about it being a '94.
If it is: It could be the vacuum modulator. $25.
Could be the VM's supply tube (cracked, torn, oil swollen, etc)
The VM is a small (4 inch) diaphram mounted the rear of the tranny that takes 5 seconds to replace.
You may want to investigate. They went out quite often (rubber pancake, old fluid, metal bits, rubber......time)

I'm sure they checked it. The truck now shifts and cruises along much better than I even remember it doing so before the trouble started. Now that the transmission is working properly I can feel just how badly it needs a tuneup. I'll have to ask my neighbor where I can get one as cheap as possible. The truck needs its horsepower back.

This is funny in a way. To my Sisters and I our car is like a pet almost. To you guys it's like an icon.
Classic, my Dad, Dan, and from the sights of things Mahnarch, Jersey, Farti1 and Phil are very dedicated to their cars and trucks.
It seems to be universal because everybody mentioned comes from different States. (Except for Dan and me we do come from the same State.)

I usually become accustomed to my vehicle.

I think most of us become attached to our vehicles.
