Our local radio talk show host, Rick Beckett, passed away this past Thursday night, aged 54, of a heart attack.
Rick was one part of the duo of 'The Rick and Scott Show'. Working together for 15 years.
I remember listening to the duo when it was a trio: 'The Rick, Darla and Scott Show' before Darla left for Cleveland in the late 90s.
Shortly after that a young lady named Stephanie joined the crew; not lasting long since she tended to show up late, "Oh my God! Sorry guys!", almost every day.
At first I thought it was a running gag but, after the first full week of her doing this and she didn't return I knew it was the real deal.
Then Rick got pulled over for a DUI.
Turns out Rick fought Alcoholism for years, hiding from everyone until the night he was waiting for a red light to turn and he "took a nap....for 20 minutes".
After his rehab the arresting officer became a regular on the show.
Rick was never shy about his past, and gave hearty advice to anyone he thought he could help.
He was also a huge dog lover. Rick and Scott often had their dogs in the studio with them over the years. And had annual contests where winners would receive gift certificates to Chow Hound and various other pet related events.
Thursday night, 2/26/09 Rick was home alone and collapsed of heart failure.
After almost 13 years of listening to him (and his crew) I can surely say that I will miss his distinctive voice coming over my radio in the morning.
There will be a memorial show for Rick on Monday 9am to noon.

Listen to Rick and Scott podcasts and watch videos while they're available at that bottom of that article.
I can only say that he will be surely missed. He was a great friend to many and had a big heart that he shared with every one.
