HOT NEWS!!
The Circuit City Super Sale is on!
For those that haven't heard, unfortunately, CC is going out of business - nation wide - and they're having a 30% off sale (give or take).
Today, I got rid of my clunky old HP XP 515n machine built in 2002 for a new HP Vista E2...something (it's written on the box, just outside of my view).
All specs are 20x better than my old anchor machine and I'm seeing he difference, already. Although the set up process takes forever.
I like the new speed. And, maybe I can actually run my flight sim at a decent speed, now.
***
I got my new machine at 50% off.
It sucks that CC is going under but, atleast I got to save some cash and helped them liquidate some supplies.
......I don't like the new mouse. It's too small/flat.

I'm with you Mahnarch I'm very sad about Circuit City's liquidation.
I think they have been a great store, they carry wonderful products and their prices are not bad.

It's great that you can get such good deals on excellent products. I am also sorry that we're losing Circuit City.

I remember that you had been having difficulties with your computer. I'm glad you were able to get a new one and an inexpensive one too.

It took me over 5 hours to email myself everything in order get family pictures and documents transfered over but, so far, it's worth it.
It's also taking a bit to get used to the layout of Vista.
Overall, I'm happy with my new purchase.....although...the keyboard and mouse are still funky.
....I may end up with my old board within the next few days.

I'm getting used to the board and mouse, now.
Something I just noticed, too:
The flag in my avatar is incredibly faster than it was before.
On my old machine it was always waving in a slow flooop flooop flooop. Now it's flip-flip-flip.
I have yet to install any of my old games/sims. I've spent all my time on the internets.....and actually using the 1.5Mb DSL speed.
I'm still geeked.

My wife wanted high speed for years I never thought there was going to be a big difference now I know that there is. I have a cellular chip in my laptop for emergency use but even that is faster than the old landline dial up. You guys on the forum told me all along that it's night and day and you were right. I also am feed of the iditotic population from the aol chat forums.

I remember when we switched to high-speed about 5-6 months ago maybe? Had dial-up for about 7 years as that was all that was available, and I used to be a competitive gamer in the city so the dial up killed me. I've been looking at a new computer, and I know a few things about building them etc. just not too much ya know? Well, as soon as my ulcers finish healing up I'm going to get back to work and buy/build a new gaming PC. My current PC had a power supply short about 6 months into owning the PC, and I guess it damaged some of the ports on my mobo because I had a rather nice graphics card - nVidia 8600GT - and though it was kind-of (it would lock up insanely frequently, though my system more than met it's requirements ANYTHING even online video or standing still would hard freeze, however when it did work the games were beautiful) working for a while, it all of a sudden stopped, and my only guess is that my PCI-E port went bad LMAO oh well.

I remember the day the my phone company finally ran DSL to my house. I heard about it from a buddy of mine and was anticipating the install and told my dad about it (who was living with me at the time) and he was all "Meh..."
When I finally had it up and running my dad came home from work so I was able to show it to him.
He was so impressed by the speed that he personally ran out and bought a router and two more Ethernet cables.
That was over 7 years ago - and I'll never go back!
56k is dead now, ain't it?

Maggot:
You better get to Circuit City pretty darn quick! I bought one of the last two computers they had on hand.

I've installed Diablo II on my machine. It's great, and I'm already to level 15 Sorceress. No stalling. No lost bytes. No freezing. Even with over 20 monsters on screen.

I just never bothered before. My wife kept saying that we shoudl get a powerlink system it's so much better. I figured for an hour a day about twice a day we didn't have to have that.
But now we use the net more than that since I started doing the youtube thing. We also recently got a laptop with a wireless router and that would not have worked without the link system. I still have a laptop with a cellular card for when I'm not at home I keep it in my truck most of the time.

I'm looking at new computers. I might get a new Laptop but the one I have has been so good I'm not sure I'm ready to get a new one. I'm thinking in terms that I'm going to be away a lot and the newer laptops maintain their charge longer.

I can tell you this: Computers are advancing to quickly that once you open the box on your brand new laptop, it'll be superceded with new technology.
You also should get one of those fans that sit under the laptop to keep it cool. The battery loses charge a ton quicker if it gets too hot.

That's funny you would say that. I said that to Thunderbird and he said "your laptop is the equivalent of a 78 LTD next to a new Lincoln.
My laptop is only about 7 years old.

I'm not big on change either. I have the same job I have had since I was 19 years old. My wife is the only real girlfriend I ever had. High school flings not withstanding, I drove a 1987 Chevy truck until it got at the end of 2002 so I bought a new 2003 model. It was way better in advancements but it took me a while to warm up to it. Last October it got rammed.
Now I'm warming up to my new 1.
I was on dial up until about a year and 1/2 ago but now that we have the link I can't believe I didn't give in to my wife sooner and get it it's super. I just had no idea it would be this much better.
So weighing it like that I'd say treat yourself to something new. Just cause the old 1 works doesn't mean there's not a better new method out there.
