This morning on his way home from work a camper hit my dads truck on the bed in front of the bumper and spun him against a gard rail and it sliced the passengers side of the truck like a tin can and flattened a front tire
My dad is not hurt but he is awful pist He just got home and went to bed. When he got here he said to me Why are you home from school?
my grandpa got me because he figured this might upset me enough to want to come home
i am not upset because my dad is ok but this way my dad could go to bed and rest and my grandpa could do what he had planned and I would take care of the little kids til my mom gets home
i will make them soup and play some games and watch cartoons for now
my dad thinks his truck is totaled

I'm glad that Phil is all right. That's such a thing when you don't know it's coming and all of a sudden you get clipped. I'm sorry the truck is so badly damaged I know how much Phil likes his vehicle.
The important thing is no injury.
Thanks for the news Jason we all know that your dad will be fine he is definitely a tough guy.

Oh dear. I'm glad that your Dad is all right Jason. It was probably better for you to come home for the younger ones that was probably for the best.
I'm sorry that pretty red truck of his got damaged badly though.

I'm ok. I'm stiff as a board and sore pretty much but I did go to work lastnight although my wife thought I should call off. I figured that as long as I could walk around I should go and do what is expected of me.
I'm going to need a new truck. I already went down this morning and picked 1 out. I'm just going to buy it and wait to get reimbursed by the insurance company. I should have the new 1 tomorrow.
I went to the dealer and saw a brand spanking new Silverado red with 4x4 the option package I like. But the pickups no longer have a 8100 v8 this has a 6.0.
I'm going to buy it anyway though.
Jason managed to get a day off of school. My father figured it would be emotionally distracting at school. The translation is my mother and my father had a club meeting and figured Jason would watch his brother and sister but that was ok. I needed to sleep for a while.
Thanks for everybody who mentioned in this thread.

It's good to know you're alright.
Also good to know that you found another truck.

Major suck factor Phil. You just bought that truck a few years ago after your beloved dad's truck was wrecked.

The main thing is you're all right Phil. And you're helping the economy with a big ticket purchase. J/K on that last one I'm glad you're all right.

Oh, my. I'm glad you're not hurt. I was in an accident once, but it is nothing compared to yours. Well, at least you have a nice new truck. I hope your life returns to normal soon.

I'm pretty lucky. I picked up my new 1 this afternoon. I already put over 100 miles on it. It takes me a while to mold into the new though.
Like Weasel2htm remembers my story from years ago. I had a 1987 Silverado my dad had and right after I graduated he sold it to me. I kept it until late 2002 when it was parked at a curb and a drunk blasted it.
It was not technically unrepairable but the damage exceeded the value of it. As the 87 was considered 16 years old because in November of 2002 we were into the 2003 model year.
I did the same thing I went to the Chevrolet dealer and looked for the biggest truck in stock that was not dual wheels. I would have considered dual wheels but I prefer single. I got the truck about 3 days later and that was that.
Once again things progressed nearly the same way. My 2003 had just reached 100k miles on it. Most of which I put on in the 1st 2 years. I did more traveling jobs at that time where I would be sent farther away more often. That still happens sometimes but less often now because about 4 yeras ago they regulated that for payroll reasons.
That means I probably wont log up as many miles on the new 1.
My back is still stiff and my left arm is a bit sore. No tackle football this week.
I might have been able to miss the guardrail if I knew this was coming I just got drilled so fast I didn't have the time to react as well as I had hoped to.

Im sorry that happened Phil. Im glad youre all right. I know youre a dedicated guy but you could take a day off for something like that. Its not exactly a sneeze and sniffle. You to physical manual labor and doing that when youre partially injured could be more harmful if you dont take it easy for 1 or 2 days.

Thank everybody who cared so much for posting. the new truck is awesome and I hope it works as well as the other truck
its hard for my dad though because he really loved that truck. the inserance company told him they are going to total it and they were surprised that he already replaced it
they said that it was only totaled by 500 bucks I guess that means that if there were 500 less dameage it could still be fixed my dad said that thats what they say now once they take a door and fender off and find out how much more is bent they would have found atleast that much more damage
my mother said that it is better this way because if more was damaged it might not fix as well and its still going to be a 100,000 mile truck
my dad said so what the last truck was 15 years old when it got wrecked and I was still driving it everyday
i like new but I have lots of good memories of our old truck

OH MAN! I leave for a few days and Phil gets creamed. That sucks but, at least you're in good health.
A new truck is always nice, too. But, getting used to all the new buttons, knobs and finding your as.s groove can take a bit.
So. Where's the pics of the old trucks damage and new truck in the driveway?

I didn't take any pictures of the truck wrecked because that depresses me. I could take some pics in my driveway but for now here goes.

It always takes me a while to like the new as much as the old.
Weasel2htm you must have remembered me posting from the beginning of when I started forum discussion because I think my 2003 was just a few months old when I told that story. Granted I've told it more than once though.

I'm glad that your new truck is so nice. It looks high. Classic has the F350 I wonder which truck is higher the Chevrolet or the Ford. ;D
